Ravinia is NOT unique
editOne editor has stated:
"Ravinia is unique in that it is one of the only concert venues in the country to allow full meals to be brought in and consumed at concerts, even allowing alcoholic beverages and bottles of wine."
This is untrue + grammatyically incorrect, or, to put it another way, it cannot be "unique" and "one of the only".
One example of a concert venue allowing food and rink is Wolf Trap in Virginia.
Food section removed
editThe following appeared in the article:
Food
editThis section contains promotional content. (December 2007) |
"Most lawn patrons still bring their own picnic meals, to be eaten on picnic blankets across the large lawn. The grounds are also served by Levy Restaurants, with several options for attendees who wish to purchase food on-site. Many carts and kiosks scattered along paths in the park offer wine, drinks, ice cream, and traditional American food choices. The Gatehouse, located near the Martin Theater, offers paninis, alcoholic beverages, desserts and full picnic boxes available for pre-purchase online.
A 2-story dining pavilion debuted during the 2007 season, featuring the Park View Restaurant, and a private banquet hall, accommodating up to 300 guests for special events. The pavilion takes the place of the Mirabelle restaurant, which will be remodeled and reopened. A new gift shop enables attendees to purchase Ravinia themed clothing, gear and music.
Major nearby corporations, such as Abbott Laboratories and Walgreens, hire Levy Restaurants' on site lawn catering service, offering "Ravinia Nights" to employees and family."
I AGREE thatit reads like an ad. If anyone wants to see this section returned, it needs to be severely edited.
List of shows
editThe article currently lists all shows for the 2009 and 2010 seasons, but this listing is not encyclopedic. WP:NOTDIRECTORY says:
“ | Wikipedia articles are not ... Directories, directory entries, electronic program guide, or a resource for conducting business. For example, an article on a radio station should not list upcoming events, current promotions, current schedules, et cetera, although mention of major events, promotions or historically significant programme lists and schedules may be acceptable. | ” |
The show listing takes up 2/3s of the article, and 2011, will take up 3/4s of the article.
The article should mention major events and historically significant programs. It currently mentions some of that in a different section, saying "Over the years, the festival has hosted such luminaries as Louis Armstrong, The Ballet Russe, The Beach Boys, ...".
Could the exhaustive list be shortened and folded into the "the festival has hosted such luminaries" section? --Hirsutism (talk) 14:51, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
- I agree, and have restored your previous version. —Jeremy (talk) 15:59, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
