I have no reference, but I remember seeing a TV commercial run in the early 80's. Ray was the spokesman for some product. The commercial started with " Hi, I'm Ray Nitschke and this is my dog Butkus..."--Purpleslog (talk) 18:20, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
He was a spokes person for Oldsmobile. He did have the same type of dog named Butkis.

A sentence in the article reads, "In 1969, He was awarded as the NFL's all- time top Linebacker by the NFL. Lawrence Taylor felt he deserved it, but was denied the honor."
