Date of death
editIs his date of death mentioned ? -- Beardo 19:41, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Design philosophy
editHe's famous for the MAYA principle - Most Advanced Yet Acceptable. A bio http://www.raymondloewy.com/about/bio.html explains, He believed that, "The adult public's taste is not necessarily ready to accept the logical solutions to their requirements if the solution implies too vast a departure from what they have been conditioned into accepting as the norm."
How should this be added to the main article? A new heading, "Design Philosophy"? It seems a new heading would require more content, but without a new heading, where else does it fit? Turadg 18:55, 3 August 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Turadg (talk • contribs)
Fair use rationale for Image:Studebakerlogo1940s.gif
editImage:Studebakerlogo1940s.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Image copyright problem with File:Spar-logo.svg
editThe image File:Spar-logo.svg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.

German-American?
editI think it would be appropriate to put him as German-American as he was of Austrian German ancestry. LeUrsidae96 (talk) 14:24, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
He was born French, and not Austrian, though his father was Austrian. He still held dual French and American citizenship. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.255.5.253 (talk) 23:55, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Then it should say that he was French-American, not "French-born American" as it suggests that he gave up his French citizenship, which he never even intended to as he moved back to his native France in his old age.
On a similar note, how important is it really to mention his Jewish heritage? And so early at that – in the introduction paragraph. I think that's kinda racist. The German version of this article doesn't mention it at all. Wouldn't it be wiser to, at least, move that information into the Life section? (Not that this is the only article on Wikipedia doing that …) WoodrowShigeru (talk) 11:22, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
I think the best way of going about it would be to check out Einstein's wiki article which is qualified as a "good article." They are similar in that Einstein is another non-observant Jew where his Jewish roots help to define who he is but has nothing to do with why he is famous. In it, Einstein's German heritage is listed at the top while his Jewish heritage is listed in the life section. However, I'm a little hesitant about even calling Loewy Jewish as I see nothing about his mother (the traditional definition of how Jews define who his Jewish). Some less observant sects of Judaism say it can also go through the father however. I think the best course of action with this is to check out how wiki does this in other articles where the father is Jewish and the mother is not. In my non-expert opinion, I think to avoid the issue completely, the currently defined: "Loewy's father was of a famed Jewish lineage" is perfect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.133.32.10 (talk) 14:35, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
Coca-Cola bottle
editThe Coca-Cola bottle was designed by the Root Glass Company of Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1916, before Loewy ever arrived in the USA. Says so right on Coca-Cola's web site. So I took that reference out. He did work on vending machines, though. 66.188.81.194 (talk) 07:49, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
The Coke bottle article goes into even more detail and cites the misconception about the Loewy connection. Personally, I think its a good explanation. Perhaps we should link to it? --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 17:52, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- I'm still trying to track down a reference for this, but Loewy's involvement with Coke was to design a version of the bottle that would vend easily from a machine. The original design made it difficult to dispense mechanically. --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 16:45, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
Cause of death
editCause of death is listed as 'illness' which is pretty vague. Can there be some research into what illness this was and add a section on the page? Aethalides (talk) 06:09, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Would someone please re-include mention of the Google Doodle (which was blanked and not reinserted prior to the page being locked), here is the original (not by me--176.254.92.86 (talk) 18:10, 5 November 2013 (UTC)):
- On November 5, 2013, Loewy was honoured with a Google Doodle showing a locomotive bearing a resemblance to the K4s Pacific #3768 shroud design, using the wheels of the train to form the word Google. [1]
