RTGS vs Netting
editI don't think RTGS is an alternative to netting. You can have netting throughout the day and just one RTGS at the end of the day. Can someone with more experience in banking confirm this? Maszanchi 08:57, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
RTGS is an alternative to netting in as much as RTGS payments are settled irrevocably in real time throughout the day, whereas netting system settlements only happen a few times a day (and value is not transferred until after the settlement of the netted totals has taken place). You're right that most netting systems would effect final settlement of the net totals by means of an RTGS system: but this is essentially different to use of RTGS for settlement of single payments on a real time basis.
RTGS was originally intended for settlement of systemically important payments (i.e. usually for payments with a very high value) while netting systems are intended to deal with payments of a lower value and that are not systemically important. However, in many countries RTGS is the only means of getting same day value, so it also tends to be used for lower value payments that are time-critical (such as house purchase payments). RTGS in India
editIt is strongly suggested that the section on RTGS in India is moved to a separate article. Kacper (talk) 23:50, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Country or currency
editThe list has "European Union - TARGET2" but should this actually be "Eurozone - Target2". Are All RTGS systems single currency or can we say which handle more than one ? - Rod57 (talk) 00:14, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
