"radio receiver" is technically correct in regard to things like television receivers, navigation receivers, etc., in normal speaking and writing the latter are not usually referred to that way. Consequently I added a brief description of the electronics usage of the term prior to the cross reference for "radio receiver." - Palmpilot900

  • In satellite television, a set-top box.
  • On a telephone, the "receiver" is the handset, particularly the earpiece.
  • In law, a receiver is a person appointed by a court to take into custody the property or funds of another party, pending litigation
  • In communications and information processing, a receiver is the recipient (observer) of a message (information), which is sent from a source (object). Receivers decode messages.

I removed these (after removing wikilinks per dab style) because they don't link to an article about the receiver they describe. Maybe those articles should exist, but they don't, and WP:NOT a dictionary. Tedernst 21:54, 30 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Too specialized

edit

This article seemingly fails to consider receivers used in radio telescopes. They are important. In fact, I just fixed the article on Arno Penzias because it said the antenna was the key item, but the receiver got him the Nobel.

Possibly a link to Radio Astronomy would suffice as a start, but that article has no details on receivers. The antennas are the obvious attractant for the public, but they receivers (about which I know little) are important. I hope someone fixes this - if you don't know how invite someone at Arecibo [1] or NRAO [2] or CSIRO [3] or the VLA [4] to do it. If you get the director, he can assign it to a publicity person. Receiver (legal)

Why is "Receiver (legal)" a redlink? -- Mikeblas 17:18, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Also administrative receivership. within bankruptcy is red. Looks like a qualified writer is needed for some kind of new entry (page)Carrionluggage 18:18, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Can this disambiguation article point to Receivership? -- Mikeblas 20:13, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Looks good - I say have at it! Carrionluggage 20:28, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I didn't have the courage to go thru with it. I want to do a little more research. I'm entertaining this to replace the Receiver (legal) redlink:

Citrix Receiver

edit

Hello. What do editors think about adding the new article for software Citrix Receiver to the In technology category? The product is often simply referred to as Receiver both by the company and in the press.

As a full disclosure, I have a financial conflict of interest and have been working on Citrix's behalf to suggest improvements to Citrix-related articles. I will not be making any edits here myself and ask that someone else add the article only if they think it's appropriate. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 21:39, 12 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Seems perfectly valid to me. I've added it. -- Fyrael (talk) 05:59, 13 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
