NPA name
edit@DankJae, I'm going to ask you to undo your revert. My edit was not solely concerned with the name of the national park authority, but you've reverted it in its entirety because you disagree with that aspect of the edit. If your dispute is only with the name of the NPA then it would be better to make a partial revert.
On the name, Snowdonia is the current common name for the area on Wikipedia, as you'll know from working on that article. The NPA doesn't have its own article, but it's referred to as "Snowdonia National Park Authority" within the Snowdonia article. If you want to challenge this you'll need to provide sources demonstrating that we should use "Eryri National Park Authority" instead.

- @A.D.Hope, reverted the non-name edits (bar my other edit).
- In terms of NPA, as it has no article there is no requirement to continue to use Snowdonia over its new official name (not related to legal name). Nor is the use at Snowdonia determining the common name for the NPA.
- Since the rename (Nov '22), on Google News:[1][2]
- These use Snowdonia NPA:[3][4][5]
- Both: [6]
- These use Eryri NPA:[7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]
- Not here to push for one-size-fits-all, but that either name can be used. Fine with it being Snowdonia at Snowdonia for consistency, but elsewhere editors can choose either when specifically referencing the NPA. Understandably, when referencing current events, they'll use the current name (as used in the source), which is more likely "Eryri National Park Authority" now.
- However, I am considering generalising this article into Place-names in Snowdonia as it has long been unreviewed, so less NPA-focused. DankJae 10:18, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- Cheers for collating those sources. My preference would be for the encyclopedia to be internally consistent one way or the other. You might want to raise a discussion at Snowdonia about how to refer to the NPA, since that's the primary article for things relating to the national park.
- Has the NPA started referring to itself as 'Eryri National Park Authority' yet? It was using terms such as 'the National Park Authority', presumably to avoid the issue of its official name in English being 'Snowdonia NPA'. A.D.Hope (talk) 10:30, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- @A.D.Hope, parts of the website do, like the contact and planning page. Of course anything statutory has to have Snowdonia, like their meetings.
- Currently the consistency preference is only for geographic features. If you de-capitalise it as "national park authority" then makes sense to use Snowdonia, but if it is capitalised as an alternative name, then you can use either imo. For the context of this article I felt using the current (new) name as preferable, concerning the topic.
- But be free to raise a discussion somewhere, as many other editors have added "Eryri NPA" to other articles too. DankJae 10:56, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- I will raise a discussion, as I think it would be good if everyone were on the same page. If I open a discussion at WT:WALES would you mind providing a few examples of where "Eryri NPA" has been used? You seem to know where to find them better than me.
