NPOV??
editAre you kidding me with this article. This is a load of one-sided anti-communist propaganda. The famine that occured during Ethiopia's revolutionary period is some how a part of a "genocide," but the much worse famine that occured under Haile Selassie a few years earlier wasn't??
Killing people that take up arms against a government is "genocide"? Oh yeah? Why aren't the apartheid South African government or the Israeli government blamed for "genocide"? Why isn't the U.S. blamed for "genocide" for wiping out the Black Panthers??
Genocide is defined as 'the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group'. That doesn't apply here at all. Just because a kangaroo court in Addis Abba (under the new regime) says it, doesn't make it so. Redflagflying 17:25, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Democide was certainly committed, though the charge of genocide is less supported. Those killed during the 1984 famine are not included in the million-some total, however, while they usually are for other dictators (see e.g. Stalin). — ዮም | (Yom) | Talk • contribs • Ethiopia 07:25, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Re-tagged NPOV
editThis article needs serious work. It's not even close to representing an impartial point of view of what admittedly appears to be a dark period of Ethiopian history. As an example, but far from being the only example, includes statements such as "Mengistu designed the relocation project that caused one of the worst humanitarian crises of the decade. From 1975–1978, Mengistu was responsible for the seventh worst genocide in world history.[citation needed]". I don't care if you dig up a citation to "support" that statement, Wikipedia can't say that Mengistu was responsible for the seventh worst genocide in world history. Period. Wikipedia can say that "Time magazine called the results of Mengistu's (in)actions the seventh worst example of genocide in world history." or something like that (please note that my example is a purely made up statement). In its current form, this article is a very good example of an article that needs serious work. 98.208.96.56 (talk) 06:59, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
"Amnesty International Estimate" of 500K is likely to be apocryphal

Crimes against humanity category removal
editCrimes against humanity is a specific legal concept. In order to be included in the category, the event (s) must have been prosecuted as a crime against humanity, or at a bare minimum be described as such by most reliable sources. Most of the articles that were formerly in this category did not mention crimes against humanity at all, and the inclusion of the category was purely original research.
