Adding a "Notable People' section
editWould be good to add a "Notable People" section to the Reefton page.
A couple of sports people to list under it to start are:

Claim to being first town in Southern Hemisphere to have electricity
editI had removed the reference to being the first in the Southern Hemisphere (perhaps New Zealand), since Kimberley in the then Cape Colony had electric street lighting in September 1882. The Wikipedia page for Tamworth in New South Wales, Australia, made a similar claim to first electric street lighting in the Southern Hemisphere (November 1888), but this was changed to first in Australia on recognising Kimberley's priority.
My update was reversed with this comment:
"Yes, Kimblerley (sic) had electricity first, but it was a city, not a town. There actually needs to be a whole section in this article exploring this claim, since it's so common, linking to street light and Reefton Power Station."
This comment amounts to hair-splitting in my view. Where exactly does one draw the line between a town and a city? Besides, Kimberley City Council was only formed in 1912. The Wikipedia article on Kimberley also states it was the first "town" to receive electric street lighting. To make such a claim for Reefton, without qualifying it, is misleading, even false. The Wikipedia page for Reefton Power Station also states that it was "the first power station to supply municipal electricity in the Southern Hemisphere." Clearly, some form of municipal power supply was providing electricity to Kimberley's street lighting in 1882, so this claim is open to question as well.
Looking forward to the views of fellow Wikipedians. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 156.22.252.11 (talk) 06:41, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- I regret no one has replied to you until now. I have removed mention of being first in the Southern Hemisphere. This was originally added unsourced, and the source added later, but the source only says "Reefton on the West Coast was the first to be lit by electricity (in 1888)". This claim clearly means "in New Zealand".-gadfium 04:26, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
