Moving page?
editI was wondering should this article be moved to Regional Authorities in the Republic of Ireland? The title as it is could be confusing for not-in-the-know readers who may take it to mean regional authorities in Ireland as an island. The IMOS states that Republic of Ireland is to be used when the island is being mentioned in the same context to avoid confusion - so would that cover this as it may imply the island? - I concur. In addition, would you have any ideas on what to do with List of regions of the Republic of Ireland? ConorBrady.ie (caint) 11:18, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm currently i've been working on merging the regions and regional authority articles together as the regional authority ones share almost the same information and this could be put into this article instead of repeating similar stuff on several articles. However i wonder whether we should merge this article and the one you point out together into a new article titled Regions of the Republic of Ireland? This article would give an overview of the regions as well as detail what the role and purpose of the Regional Authorities are.
- However i think we could instead keep both, they just need tidying up and working on. I'll get working on them once i finish upgrading the regions articles and see how it goes.
- So far i've helped rewrite and source the Midlands Region, Dublin Region, and South-West Region articles and added specific authority information into them and redirected any seperate regional authority articles to them (except Midlands so far). There is too many articles dealing with the same thing in regards to the regions and their authorities which could be cut down into single articles. I even adapted the regional authorities template to reflect the merging and rewrites. I don't see how the regional authorities can justify having their own articles at the moment. - Yes, the Regions and their respective Authorities don't need seperate articles.
- WRT List of regions of the Republic of Ireland, perhaps that article could be made into a dedicated list, with the pre-amble moved to this article (Regional Authorities in Ireland). Also, the name of the former might be updated to List of Regional Authorities in the Republic of Ireland to reflect their relationship. ConorBrady.ie (caint) 18:28, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- I don't think the regional authorities article merits being renamed to "List of". The article will end up being more of a non-list than a list. Mabuska (talk) 22:36, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- I'm inclined to agree with User:Mabuska. Let this article be the master. Just lift the nice wiki table and demographics table from the "List of " article and plop them here. Laurel Lodged (talk) 22:56, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

- Just to clarify, the renaming I was suggesting was that of List of regions of the Republic of Ireland to List of Regional Authorities of the Republic of Ireland, although I now realise that that is a discussion for a different talk page. ConorBrady.ie (caint) 08:39, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- Well i'll have the rest of the regions done hopefully by the end of this week and then we can concentrate on working on these two articles and moving them to a less confusing name. Mabuska (talk) 10:30, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks, Mabuska. I usually just gnome about here on wiki, so this kind of collaboration/discussion is new to me. ConorBrady.ie (caint) 10:37, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- Sometimes its better just to gnome around and not get involved in collaborations or discussion - they get pretty heated especially with those with hardened old-fashioned views lol.
- I've also retouched the maps i've created so that each county and city council is a different shade of green just so that the different parts of a region can be identified better in the smaller version of the map used in the articles.
- Would you or Laurel Lodged be able to expand the Major Population Centres sections of the Dublin Region and the newly done West Region articles so that they are like the South-West Region and Midlands Region versions? Mabuska (talk) 11:15, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
