Dcoetzee-

I appreciate your work on this page as when I first began researching this company there was no Wikipedia entry and I didn't know where to begin with creating one. I've edited the page to reflect that the merger is not quite complete. I hope this is within appropriate editing standards, as I don't want to step on your toes.

No trouble, my error. :-) Please continue to contribute. Dcoetzee 21:46, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

You should remember that at the time of the merger in 2008 that they also laid off alot of workers which was not shown in the number for the profits on the other page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.120.78.221 (talk) 18:09, 25 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

This page seems to have a largely self-promotional tone, like it was written by marketing professionals for the company. Reliability is questionable and more objectivity is warranted.

AutoNation and Republic

edit

The Page AutoNation gives the following history: A waste collection firm called "Republic Industries" was created in 1981. H. Wayne Huizenga, founder of Waste Management, became chairman in 1995. The company changed its name to AutoNation then spun off Republic Services as an IPO in 1998. It appears that Huizenga played a fundamental role in both Republic Services and its main competitor Waste Management. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yintercept (talkcontribs) 15:30, 7 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

seems to me this whole section is non-encyclopedic marketing puffery. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆 𝄐𝄇 00:33, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Criticism and controversy

edit

It seems a controversy section was added where none was needed, against wikipedia guidelines that can be found [[1]]: WP:Criticism. All the content was already on the page, and was just moved to a more prominent position in its own section, against NPOV guidelines. I am going to revert this addition and put it back to how it was before.156.233.121.59 (talk) 11:28, 11 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

WP:PROMOTION

edit

This article appears to be consistently modified and used as a promotional article. The controversy and criticism section has been removed by an unlogged user, with a misleading statement that it was brought back to the body (the information was actually deleted), recurrent edits are explicitly made by the same IP addresses, or users explicitly from the company. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abel Riboulot (talkcontribs) 19:49, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Information Update to Republic Services page - Updated Leadership

edit

I hope that you are well!I hope that you are well! I am reaching out to request edits to the Republic Services Wikipedia page. I am employed by the Company, which is why I am requesting these edits and not making them myself.

On June 25, the Company had a change in leadership. While this change is reflected on the sidebar of the Wikipedia page, it is not reflected in the Company History section.

Specifically, the fourth paragraph under the Company History section does not include information about the retirement of the Company's former CEO (Donald W.Slager) and the new CEO (Jon Vander Ark). Please reference this press release announcing the CEO transition. Source: https://media.republicservices.com/2021-03-30-Republic-Services-Announces-Completion-of-Comprehensive-CEO-Succession-Plan

Additionally, the Company has experienced some other leadership changes. Specifically, Chuck Serianni is no longer the EVP, Chief Financial Officer. Brian DelGhiaccio is EVP, Chief Financial Officer. Source:

Is it possible to get this information updated?

Thank you!

  • What I think should be changed: Reference to Don Slager as current CEO in the fourth paragraph under the "Company History" section. Reference to Chuck Serianni as the EVP, Chief Financial Officer on the sidebar.
  • Why it should be changed: The information is no longer current.
  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):[1] and [2]

Hi Mcainmortonrsg. Since these look to be straightforward factual edits, I've gone ahead and made the updates as requested (referencing a different third-party source).

  • What I think should be changed: Change the industry from "Waste management" to "Environmental Services." Change the opening line "Republic Services is an American waste disposal company" to "Republic Services is an American environmental services company"
  • Why it should be changed: Republic Services has recently rebranded as an environmental services company and recently acquired the environmental services company US Ecology

Not done for now: In general, we should prefer clear descriptions like "waste management' over more buzzword-y terms like "environmental services." The press release linked still notes that US Ecology deals in waste treatment and disposal; it is not clear how exactly "environmental services" differs. The news article also seems to treat "environmental services" simply as a type of waste management and processing. WP:BUZZWORD is useful essay explaining the issue here. If sources make clear what exactly differs, then the addition of environmental services could be warranted. WhinyTheYounger (WtY)(talk, contribs) 18:25, 13 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
As someone with a career in "environmental services" I agree with Whiny.....cheers. Duke Gilmore (talk) 20:31, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Fines misplaced under LFGTE sub-heading

edit

The following paragraphs appear under the sub-heading "Landfill gas to energy (LFGTE)", when they almost certainly belong somewhere else, such as under the heading "Criticism and controversy".

In 2008, Republic Services agreed to pay a $1 million fine and up to $36 million in remediation costs for alleged violations of the Clean Water Act at a closed landfill in Clark County, Nevada.

In 2007, Republic Services was fined $725,000 by the State of California related to hazardous waste leaking from a closed landfill into San Francisco Bay. 2600:8801:2A00:2400:74AC:32F9:AF47:ED4 (talk) 23:20, 15 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
