Talk:Republicanism in the Bahamas

Neutrality

edit

The page reads like a rant about the cost of monarchy with a single line of “we support self determination” as supposed balance. There is no history republicanism, and nothing significant about historical opposition to the same. I think this has been taken out of draft far too soon. Attempted to give context where relevant. Unable to find anything older than 2002 and not much content on opposition seems available. I welcome any opposition additions or older history. Thanks Titus Gold (talk) 22:28, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Sirfurboy following recent edits, I think the neutrality banner should could now be removed. Titus Gold (talk) 12:00, 10 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
The page is sourced to primary sources only. Where is the secondary source treatment? How do they cover the topic? Where is the background, the history? This is just a bunch of recent events reported. The collation is therefore WP:OR. It badly needs grounding in secondary sources and the input of editors who actually have some expertise in the subject. Not clear why this was hurried out of draft. News is a secondary source as far as I am aware and the page collates calls and discussions of becoming a republic.
References to republicanism seem to be relatively recent (last 20 years or so). Titus Gold (talk) 18:56, 10 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Newspapers are generally primary sources. They are reporting the actual words of the people involved or eyeitness accounts. This one even calls the paper "eyewitness news"[1]. A newspaper article might sometimes be a secondary source. For instance, when a journalist collates a lot of sources, such as road accident data or somesuch and reaches conclusions from the data. But for the most part newspapers are primary sources because they purport to record eyewitness views of an event. All the newspaper sources you have added are primary sources. Their presentation in this article looks like WP:OR bordering on WP:SYNTH. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 19:09, 10 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm in the process of adding additional citations. Titus Gold (talk) 19:57, 10 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I've removed the banner since there has been a significant change to the article since it was added. The article content all seems appropriate as of today. Titus Gold (talk) 19:16, 18 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
