editshould mention that in syndicated reruns many scenes are cut from shows and that many shows that were popular back in their day (like Amos and Andy) are not released into syndication because of outdated racial and ethnic stereotypes.

- I've added a lot of stuff about cuts, and also about how reruns work in Britain. You might guess from the tone of the article that I get totally pissed off by channels cutting my favourite programmes. Lee M 02:30 (yawn) June 6, 2003

editIn the USA, most episodic television shows run only during a certain season. In the northern hemisphere, this season is normally from early September until late May. This is weirdly written. All of the USA is in the Northern Hemisphere.

editAltered the bit about "Rerun" being "Rarley used" in England. That's false and I should know as I am English.
Writers' strike?
editThere really ought to be information on the US writers' strike that led to summer being a time for reruns. --Chris Griswold (☎☓) 09:44, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Rerun "abuse"
editIf you think that's bad, then you should see how bad Adult Swim's rerun abuse is - the same episode is on again 90 minutes later (but then again, it is handy if you missed it the first time around or if you just want to see it again.) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.167.171.90 (talk) 04:58, 12 May 2007 (UTC).
- It's not abuse - the sci fi channel also does it and I like the convenience. 204.52.215.107 (talk) 08:23, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Rerun vs. Repeat
editThese are more frequently referred to as repeats, with reruns the term more commonly used for syndicated programs The industry may use the term repeat, but viewers rarely use any term other than rerun. --RLent (talk) 17:37, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Get the Picture reruns on Nick GAS
editThe reruns of Get the Picture have been played on Nick GAS since 1999 & it been played 6 times a day (2 episodes in 1 hour) since Nov. 2005 when Pumping GAS along with Super Sloppy Double Dare, Family Double Dare & Global GUTS left the schedule. If Nick GAS decide to air an marathon of Get the Picture, not only will it affect the entire Nick GAS schedule but what will happenened to the show on GAS? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.56.49.37 (talk) 14:47, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Explanation of American terms needed
editIn the United States, currently running shows will rerun older episodes from the same season in order to fill the time slot with the same program. This is often done for headliner shows because the length of the year (52 weeks) is far more than the length of a pick-up (13 weeks) or a full season (around 24 weeks). Shows will tend to start re-running episodes around November and show only reruns from mid-December until Sweeps Week in February (where a show will return to new episodes in order to spike their ratings). This winter phase is often used to trial new shows in order to see if they deserve a 13-episode run. Headliners will return from February Sweeps until May Sweeps, with only limited reruns used. These are more frequently referred to as repeats, with reruns the term more commonly used for syndicated programs.
Can someone explain some of the American TV terms used in this article. People outside of the USA are not familiar with terms like pick-up (apart from a type of car), Sweeps (I know roughly what this is but I doubt most people do) and syndicated. --217.201.102.192 (talk) 17:39, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
When did reruns start???
editI was born in 1954 and after watching ME tv 'seem' to remember watching 'Route 66' when they were on which would have been when I was 5 &/or 6 yo. Also 'Peter Gunn'. I am curious as to know when reruns started and if they showed those reruns during the 60's... Anyone who knows can let me know at jackh54@aol.com. Thanx!---- — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jackh54 (talk • contribs) 09:29, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
