Disambiguation and cleanup
editNew wiki editor here. I unsuccessfully attempted to revise the first paragraph. Much of the current article is written from the perspective of business R&D, but the term also applies to the efforts of other organizations ranging from government labs to nonprofits to universities. It is also colloquially used for any organized effort to answer questions/solve problems/come up with new ideas. Government efforts to collect statistics on R&D take pains to differentiate scientific and technology R&D from the more generic "product development" or seemingly related terms such as market research. Much of the statistics included in the current article pertain to one specific definition of R&D and I believe the article should be explicit about that.
