Talk:Resident Evil (animated film series)

Why is this article necessary?

edit

Why were the animated films taken out of the general Resident Evil films article? I see a lot of problems here...

1. The page is super short - Practically no info, yet there's a bunch of sub-sections each with a maximum of two sentences underneath them.
2. Barely any info on each movie - Every single section just links to an article for each movie. If no summary has even been attempted, you might as well just make the article a set of bullet points.
3. Plot summaries (or the lack there of) - So what happens in these movies? Anyone care to enlighten the readers? Also, as I understand the animated movies share canon with the game series. Instead of creating a new articles, couldn't this info just be moved to the main series article?

The point I'm making is that this whole page seems like a rushed and poorly thought out attempt by some people to differentiate the animated straight-to-video films from the theatrical, well-known live action movie adaptions but have failed to include any information of such substantial size that it would actually warrant an article all its own. If people are going to be this obvious in their intent, I would think they should be bothered to at least put some effort into the article. So what was the harm in having all the films in a single article anyway? --84.251.83.85 (talk) 12:19, 12 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

The two film series are completely different: made by different people, produced and distributed by different companies, for a different target audience. It would be improper to pretend that they are the same by sharing an article. I'd agree that the page needs work, so if you wish to improve it, feel free to do so. I can agree with some of the points except distribution. Both film-series, barring 4D Executer, are distributed by Sony (the live action movies under the guise of Screen Gems which is, regardless, owned by Sony). Still, I don't see any real reason for the split. The target audience point is particularly moot, both film series are based on the same game series. More to the point, this page has been sitting around for six months with barely any edits which seems to indicate that either the "target audience" doesn't know of its existence or isn't particularly interested. At any rate, if this is literally all the info this series amounts to it would probably better to just merge it with the main Resident Evil (series) article, rather than leave it in its current sorry state. --80.222.39.97 (talk) 09:52, 13 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Target audience isn't really the same, the live action films are primarily made for a Western audience with a Western cast and the anime films are made for a primarily Japanese audience with a Japanese cast. You can't have a combined article for both series when said series are completely separate and quite different. Similarly, it cannot be merged into Resident Evil (series) as that is about the video games. Satellizer (´ ・ ω ・ `) 07:30, 14 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
I may not be fully aware of every Notability-criteria on Wikipedia, but I'm sure I've never heard of fandom or target audience being used as a criteria for an article split. Also, as I mentioned in my first comment, these films would be better suited to be mentioned in the game-series article because they share the canon of the games, which should at least make them notable enough for inclusion in whatever story-line summary exists in the main-article. As such, it's a bit tricky since (as I already mentioned in the first comment) there are no plot summaries (and no, I can't write them because I have not seen any of these films). Plus, what this article amounts to right now is a collection of links to the films' articles that have way more info. If the state of this article doesn't improve considerably, I'm going to post a requet to merge it into the main article. There's merit for keeping it only if people actually put some effort into it. --80.222.39.97 (talk) 19:16, 15 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Just to add to my previous comment, I just had a peek of the main-series article and realised (to my surprise) that there is no Story-section in it yet. I've volunteered to start writing one over there. --80.222.39.97 (talk) 19:29, 15 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Merging with Resident Evil (series)

edit

This is the anon from before. Since I started asking about the reasons for this page's existence, I have yet to have received any notable criteria why the negligible amount of information on it should remain alone. I feel this page, in its current state, only serves as a directory to the main movie articles, which I feel is unnecessary. People looking for the animated movies are probably going to know the name of the instalment they're looking information on and the articles themselves could easily contain connected information. Previously, this info was in the Resident Evil (film series) page where it would have been easy to access.

However, since people seemed to want to separate it, I'll reiterate that the animated movies (being part of the game continuity) would be better off being listed with all pertinent info on the main Resident Evil article. There seems to have been very little activity or improvement of the article since it was created over six months ago and I see little reason to allow the article to remain in this state if there's no intention to improve it. --CaptainNtheGameMaster (talk) 16:49, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I believe this article should be merged into Resident Evil (series) per the reasons stated by CaptainNtheGameMaster. There's not much information in this article that stresses the importance, reception, development, or spin-off media of the animated films. These would be ideal development goals for a stand-alone article or list about this topic. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  02:09, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
I'd also like to add that I'm in favour of keeping this article if it is substantially improved on. --CaptainNtheGameMaster (talk) 18:42, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

It's been well over a month since the merge proposal and nothing worthy of note has been added here. If no-one objects, I think it's time to pack up and move this info to the main series article. --CaptainNtheGameMaster (talk) 12:01, 2 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
