I must admit feeling insulted that this article implies that this technology was only copied by other companies. The method described by patent US5444457[1] at a glance appears to be the same ovbious one I independantly developed by applying a controler to my lab assignment in school, albeit twenty years after Robert Hoto did.
However, I do not know if these companies named actually copied the technology. Reportedly[2] there was favorable decision for Samsung during fact discovery. A history of the patent lawsuit(s) and appeal(s) would be useful to understanding how this technology is patently distinct from general control theory.
