I'm scratching my head about this athlete's identity. The article says he's from North Korea and his date of birth is 25 April 1993. On the World Athletics website, there is an athlete that matches correctly (i.e. name, nationality, results). Those results actually end on 22 December 2019 (Asian Marathon Championships, Dongguan). Everthing fine so far. Meanwwhile, on the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) website under "Global List of Ineligible Persons" there is an entry for "RI, Kang Bom" with a birth date of 25 April 1993, but a nationality of South Korea (KOR). This athlete was issued with a two year ban due to a doping violation described as "In competiton test in KOR" with an infraction date of 9 April 2023. Can the AIU have made a mistake with his nationality? Seems unlikely. Or is there an athlete called "RI, Kang Bom" from South Korea who has the same birthday as his namesake in North Korea who is also a long-distance athlete? Seems unlikely as well. Especially as there is only one "RI, Kang Bom" on World Athletics. And why the time gap between December 2019 and April 2023 for the results (although probably Covid related)? But then why doesn't World Athletics include the race for April 2023 under under "RI, Kang Bom" even if he was subsequently disqualified? Also that race was in "KOR" (i.e. South Korea) not "PRK" (i.e. North Korea). Has he changed nationality from North to South Korea? No, World Athletics can't be wrong.
