Free puto festival

edit

This is the tastiest rice cake in the world: Calasiao (pop: 85,419) will celebrate on May 5, 2008, its (free) Puto industry festival. It is known for its 100 years "white gold: "cup-shaped, bite-sized, soft rice cakes; the semi-glutinous rice is fermented in old earthen jars" (in villages of Dinalaoan, Lumbang, Ambuetel, and part of Nalsian).[2] --Florentino floro (talk) 08:27, 3 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Except for the one entry for puffed rice cakes, none of these is a rice cake as defined in the opening sentence: a cake made of individually puffed rice. 71.14.92.84 (talk) 16:14, 21 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Confusion

edit

this is what happens when you try to standardized everything around the world, And this has been the main problem with Wikipedia, especially cultures that are similar or have similar items or items that origins in nearby countries. Well obvious this was started by a western or someone in a Western country. The North American term and idea of "rice cake" is based on the old and very basic Chinese rice cake and was started in the 70's or 80's using puffed rice cereal, as a weight loss food item.

RICE CRISPIES SQUARES/ American/western puff rice snacks or anything that look like it are not rice cakes.

They called it rice cake but its not really a Asian rice cake. Its was developed as first a weight loss fod/snack, then turned into potato style chips in the early 2000's

Lots of items on here that are not really rice cakes. someone need to figure out the mess and where its going to fix it.

Leave it as a Asian rice cake and remove the rest. I have no clue about the sweet desert stuff like the Vietnamese ones made with rice? where does it fit? are those still rice cake. Asians have tons of stuff that are name with rice, this does not means these are rice cakes.

If it is a "cake" made with "rice", it's within the appropriate coverage of a set index on rice cakes. bd2412 T 01:42, 19 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

At least put a disambig link at the top for puffed rice cakes. Americans will always think puffed rice cake when reading "rice cake". Drsruli (talk) 03:10, 2 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
