The date given for the self portrait against a blue background is incorrect. The correct date is 1905 (or possibly 1904/1905), as indicated on the Leopold Museum website. Thank you. Dionysian kat (talk) 21:16, 30 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I added a source, but lots more could be done. AppaAliApsa (talk) 21:11, 25 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Anticipated

edit

"His highly stylized heads anticipated German expressionism"

I'd prefer to avoid this word, because it implies that German Expressionism was inevitable and Gerstl was somehow prescient of that matter of fate. Normally, I would suggest saying it influenced German Expressionism, but since his work apparently wasn't much known in the art world until 1931, it's probably most accurate or at least safest to say that "his highly stylized heads resembled those painted by German Expressionists a few years later". Any objections to such a change? Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:24, 26 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Austrian Expressionists? --Andrei (talk) 07:39, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sure, if you like. I think the best way to do it is to cite specific examples (Oskar Kokoschka is mentioned in the article) and cite a source for the observation. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:59, 14 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
