On 27 May 2022, it was proposed that this article be moved to Richard Gomez (actor). The result of the discussion was Actor-politician not moved, but footballer moved. |
1. Introduction
editRichard Gomez (born on April 7, 1966 in Manila) is a Filipino-Mexican actor, comedian, model, athlete, television presenter, and director. He is one of the famous actors in Philippine Cinema.
I think it is a misnomer to call Richard Filipino-Mexican. He is 100% Filipino of Filipino and Mexican parentage. I would think someone who is called Filipino-Mexican will be a Filipino who is now living and holding a citizenship in Mexico. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.178.224.130 (talk) 13:16, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

– Exact same spelling apart from a diacritic. Create DAB at base name. One issue is that the first person is an actor and politician. Not sure if Richard Gomez (actor) or Richard Gomez (politician) is better. RedPatch (talk) 03:26, 27 May 2022 (UTC) Update: On second thought, the actor-politician is the clear PRIMARYTOPIC. I propose disambiguating the footballer only and putting a hatnote on the first article to the footballer. RedPatch (talk) 23:13, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

- Comment. Since Gomez / Gómez is a Spanish surname, there may be an argument for adding those named "Richard Gomez" to the Ricardo Gomez disambiguation page and redirecting both Richard Gomez and Richard Gómez to the Ricardo Gomez / Ricardo Gómez dab page. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 17:09, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
- Support, redirect base name to DAB.--Ortizesp (talk) 19:18, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
- Is it a good idea to use "actor-politician" as a dab? The Filipino person hasn't acted since 2018, and is a congressman-elect. Howard the Duck (talk) 13:48, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
- I don't see any pages with the string "actor-politician" (see here) unless that is not the right method to search for page titles. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 18:29, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
- Support moving Richard Gómez to Richard Gómez (footballer). As per nom, I don't know the actor and politician well enough to give an opinion on which one should be moved to given he is famous for two professions during his career. But it would make sense for "Richard Gomez" to be at base name especially as another one may make his entry into Wikipedia. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 18:29, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
- support - and then create dab page at one of the locations (with a redirect from the other). GiantSnowman 10:34, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- Question: The article pageviews for the Filipino person is around 269/day, while the Paraguayan person is 1/day. I know the Filipino probably has a built in advantage since his article is unaccented, but if that's a case of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, I dunno what is. Howard the Duck (talk) 15:04, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- Comment That's a good point. I normally check those stats before I propose, I must have forgotten to do that this time (looking at the timestamp, it was late at night when I proposed this - I was also editing the article for Richard Gomes which is probably why I didn't look too far into this. was just looking at similarly named people and found these two) The actor article is also way more detailed than the other which is a stub. I would fully endorse modifying my original proposal and making the actor-politician the Primary name and disambiguating the footballer and putting a hatnote on the primary article. RedPatch (talk) 23:12, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- Support 2nd, oppose 1st – primary topic seems pretty determined here, no need to move it to create a dab at the base name right now. A hatnote should suffice – probably also add Richard Gomes to that hatnote as well. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 07:01, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- Comment why does WP:SMALLDETAILS not apply in this instance? If we've got Ice Cube and Ice cube, surely an accent on the o is different enough? Turnagra (talk) 19:33, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. Per WP:ONEOTHER, a disambiguation page seems pointless here. Hatnotes work fine. -- Vaulter 16:40, 4 June 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose the two are different names. Showiecz (talk) 22:23, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
- Support hatnote in actor's article that targets footballer's article --Lenticel (talk) 05:58, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- Support 2nd microstub definitely needs parenthetical dab. In ictu oculi (talk) 21:32, 19 June 2022 (UTC)
