Richard M. Gordon identical?

There is an author called Richard M. Gordon. He wrote a short story "The Murder of George Washington". It was published in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. George Washington is supposed to be poisoned with tomatoes, which were considered poisonous for quite some time. Is Richard M. Gordon identical with Richard Gordon a.k.a. I don't know but would guess not for three reasons: Firstly there is another author called Richard M. Gordon who wrote a book about being an American POW in Japan. I suspect that it was him. Secondly I suspect that a qualified surgeon wouldn't ever have considered tomatoes to be poisonous. And thirdly Richard Gordon is a pen name and none of his real names begin with M. "He is the grandfather of the famous Hilda Han"
