There's nothing in the inscription that would identify William Shakespeare of Stratford as a playwright or writer of any kind! In fact, the opposite is true; the inscription indicates that whatever small measure of fame this man may have had, it was as a comic actor, not a writer.
Roscius was a Roman actor, not a playwright. If Shakespeare had been known as a playwright, he would have been caled "our Terrence" or perhaps "our Sophocles," not "our Roscius." This inscription is, in fact, a very strong argument against William Shakespeare of Stratford ever having written anything!Daver852 (talk) 20:50, 21 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
