Does anyone else think that the "peasant insurrection" mentioned here is actually referring to the peasants' revolt of 1381 under another Richard II, King of England, of the house of Plantagenet? When I searched online for peasant insurrections and Duke Richard II of Normandy, all I get is excerpts copied from Wikipedia. Jescapism (talk) 05:30, 15 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cnut didn't "force" Emma to marry him! There were protacted contract negotiations while Emma was safe in Normandy particularly in stating that any future son from the union (the later Harthacnut) would inherit ahead of Cnut's sons Sweyn and Harold. Someone with time can cite the Encomium Emmæ Reginae.TheMathemagician (talk) 12:06, 20 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Problems with the article concerning his birth date
I have seen references that attest to both 963AD and 978AD as Richard's date of birth. I see that this source uses the former, which i believe to be problematic as Richard is referred to as being in his minority and needing a regent for the first 5 years of his reign (ie. 996-1001). If the date of 963 was correct, Richard would have been 33-38 years old, which is an age where one is very unlikely to need a regent due to him being a full adult. On the other hand, if the date of 978 is accurate, that would make him 18-23 during his minority, which is a lot more possible being that it spans his adolescence and emerging adulthood. Unless of course, the claim of Richard needing a regent for the first 5 years of his reign is not true, which would also make this article problematic. Hope someone can provide more clarity on this subject!
