Regarding notability
editRegarding the notability of Professor Smith, a Google Scholar search [1] brings up a number of highly cited papers, including one with 253 citations. Although I'm not an anthropologist, I would find it hard to believe that this wouldn't qualify as 'a significant and well-known academic work', and so Professor Smith would seem to satisfy at least point 3 of WP:PROF.
