to this

Richard White, played by James Marsden, is a fictional character in the film Superman Returns. Richard is the nephew of Perry White, an assistant editor in the foreign section of the Daily Planet, and the fiancée of Lois Lane after Superman.

The original passage can be read as saying that Richard White is the editor in chief of the Daily Planet. Admittedly I could have put the info about Perry in parentheses to make it clearer, but this article is about RICHARD, not Perry, and the link to Perry would give that info anyway. It's better to give information about the character in question, I think.
