expansion tags & intro

edit

Two editing points here: !) imo too many expansion tags look ugly - if it's a stub, there's a stub tag. the article has more content than many without a stub tag. if it's a memo to yourself (whoever) you can start something in your sandbox, or make a note of it here on the talk page. not up for taking them off yet without saying why.

2) The intro makes article top-heavy and much could be assigned to other sections. cheers110.32.232.94 (talk) 01:03, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Oconee Hill Cemetery

edit

A former longtime resident of Athens GA I visited Ricky Wilson's gravesite several times. His gravestone is noteworthy not just because it is a small pyramid but also because there is a musical staff engraved on one side of the base with a rather large chord on it. I don't remember the notes offhand, although I think I have a picture somewhere. I've never been able to find anything about what significance this might have.PurpleChez (talk) 13:41, 29 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hiatus mistakes

edit

Nearly all B-52s related articles on Wikipedia incorrectly claim that Ricky Wilson's death prompted a three year hiatus from the musical careers of the other band members. Wilson died in 1985. In 1986/7, the band made a video for "Girl From Ipanema Goes To Greenland" and also performed "Wig" lip syncing on a few British television programmes. By 1988 the band were together recording Cosmic Thing, the music for which Keith Strickland had prepared earlier. When he died in 1985, the band obviously had to take time to consider whether or not they could continue without Ricky Wilson. However, they decided to keep the band going. There was NO hiatus from their musical careers. -Locklor

Ricky Wilson Categorization: "LGBT?"

edit

Hi! Please note that this is my first post, so I may not be completely educated on Wikipedia etiquette and all, so please bear with me.

I see that one of the categories pertaining to Ricky Wilson is "LGBT musicians from the United States." But it doesn't say or reference anywhere in the article that Ricky Wilson was gay, bisexual, transgender, etc. I feel like that categorization may just be a generalization and stereotype, since he died of AIDS complications. I won't delete it yet in the event that there is proof found to support the fact that he could be gay, bisexual, transgender, etc. But I was just concerned and hope to see it fixed if he is NOT an LGBT musician and if "AIDS" and "LGBT" were just paired together as a stereotype. After all, there are plenty of people who die of AIDS complications due to exposure from things such as dirty needles and open cuts or bruises. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

It's true - Ricky was gay and he came out to Keith Strickland when they were teenagers in their pre B-52's days.[1]

I was one of the owners of the Athens, Georgia Head Shop called, "The Looking Glass" where Keith Strickland and Ricky Wilson met each other. I am honored to have known Keith and Ricky when they hung out at my shop. They were both very young at the time and I hope their adventures through The Looking Glass and the music they listened to there especially the album, "The Zodiac" inspired them to create their unique sound.

I'm going to edit the article to include the word, "The" in the name of "The looking Glass" because that was its actual name. Robert J. Clark 66.81.221.15 (talk) 01:14, 21 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
