Another Version of the Album?

edit

I bought the album "Risk" today. It is not the remaster that I have - It has the original cover and all. Difference is, it's a 2-CD. On the first CD there's the normal 12 songs, and on the second CD 6 songs from former Megadeth albums (The songs are: Peace Sells, In My Darkest Hour, Holy Wars... The Punishment Due, Symphony of Destruction, A Tout Le Monde, Use The Man). Anyone else knows anything about this version? I think it should also be mentioned in the article. P.S: The 2nd CD is called "No Risk Disk". It says: Promotional use only / Not for sale separatley. --88.154.101.92 19:45, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just a limited edition I think, not entirely sure what the point of it is though... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.9.245.137 (talk) 00:45, 6 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

beat the cock .....WTF!?

edit
   * In the song "Time: The End", between utterances of the phrase "beat the clock" Mustaine sneaks in a "beat the cock". This is more noticeable on the remaster.

That's NOT true. I have the remastered and the original album and I didn't hear it. Even look in the lyrics on the book. What the hell?

Yes, it does. Listen to the second time that "beat the clock" is repeated. It's a little hard to tell, but at a loud enough volume... --Rattlehead (talk) 00:42, 6 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Provide a reputable source or I'm going to remove it.--J.shellenbarger (talk) 08:57, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
It's gone until a reliable source is given.-J.shellenbarger (talk) 03:16, 2 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I also heard Dave say beat the cock. 76.125.133.132 (talk) 00:12, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
^ Doubt it. This is the same guy that put out a DVD around the same time as the remasters where even the most tame curses were edited with silence. It might sound like it, but he's not saying it. 64.244.166.2 (talk) 01:46, 22 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Vic Rattlehead On Album Art

edit

The article stated that the only other two albums to not feature Vic are Hidden Treasures and Cryptic Writings. Youthanasia also lacks Vic, and unless that old guy on Countdown to Extinction is somehow Vic, that album also lacks him. I removed that statement due to inaccuracy.--J.shellenbarger (talk) 09:06, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Vic Rattlehead

edit

I removed the part where it says that this is the last album to not feature Vic on the cover because Megadeth released the artwork for their upcoming album "Endgame" and it doesn't have Vic on the cover. Asterix 13 (talk) 03:26, 31 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Reference #4 is incorrect.

edit

The 4th reference link is an incorrect link to the Risk All Music review. The correct link is here... (http://www.allmusic.com/album/risk-r1720902) someone please correct it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.20.143.92 (talk) 03:24, 15 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

That's actually a review for the 2004 Remix, but you're right, the current one cited isn't really a review - it just lists tracks. I'll get that fixed shortly. Thanks for pointing that out! --L1A1 FAL (talk) 22:20, 15 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Album genre

edit

The source provided for the article claims that the album is alternative metal. This source also claims that all of Megadeth's music is progressive metal. The album does not have any songs that actually show signs of alternative metal. The album more or less is a hard rock album more than anything. The source listed may not be a valid source due to other things it is listing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Intensity254 (talkcontribs) 00:53, 2 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Why don't you just leave it al;one, it really is fine as is. Besides, when one gets into particular subgenres, things get subjective anyway. Regardless of what you think of the source though, Allmusic is generally accepted as being a useful resource for song/album related articles on Wikipedia.--L1A1 FAL (talk) 01:19, 2 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

The general consensus is that this album has alt rock/modern rock elements in it so alternative metal should stay. — Preceding unsigned comment added by I call the big one bitey (talkcontribs) 17:42, 2 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Well-written

This article is well-written. clear and covers the material without an overuse of music-related jargon. Spelling and grammar are correct, save for the odd misplaced comma. WP:MOS has been applied throughout. There are no copyright issues. One suggestion would be to remove "as well" from "All three received music videos, as well"it seems redundant to me.   Done

Verifiable with no original research

The article is well researched and cited correctly and clearly. There are probably only two instances where a citation could be added, for example; The cover for the remaster was noticeably different from the original, featuring a scene from the music video for "Insomnia". and Decibel's Jeff Treppel spoke positively about the album's opener "Insomnia", naming it "one of the best Megadeth songs of the past 15 years."   Done

Found a reference, though it only says that the remix features a different cover.
The Treppel quote is referenced with source number 7. I placed it at the end of his description.

Broad in its coverage

the article covers the subject well and details all key aspects that you could expect from an album article, without being overly detailed, over-linked or over-referenced. The content is stable and neutral throughout, no giving undue weight at any stage. Coverage of reviews is well handled.

Illustrated

The use of image is appropriate, which is a refreshing change to the overuse of images that often accompanies articles of this type. Images are appropriately tagged and described. The case for non-free use is made adequately.

Additional comment

Well done with this article. It's easy to read, has a good mix of prose, tables and lists and scant use of images which I think aids readability. Under Track-listing and Personnel there is a citation [1] which seems to be floating and might need review. Good job. Flat Out let's discuss it 09:58, 26 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Moved that reference to the top. Can not provide a link because the booklet isn't placed on Internet.--Вик Ретлхед (talk) 11:11, 26 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Risk is a heavy metal album, not a hard rock one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iron Wizard13 (talkcontribs) 05:03, 15 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Genre

edit

I removed heavy metal because I haven't found any references supporting that claim. For instance, Mike Stagno from Sputnikmusic disputes such qualification: "Sure, the band had pretty much abandoned metal in every way, shape, and form."--Вик Ретлхед (talk) 13:13, 23 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

The LA Times review seems to support heavy metal. To quote them, "In recent years, Megadeth has been steering its high-octane metal in an increasingly commercial direction. "Risk" doesn't buck the trend". URL 97.83.67.162 (talk) 14:02, 24 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Well, Dave Mustaine says the record wasn't metal. When the Rolling Stone journalist asked him about Risk, he responded that after firing Friedman: "They needed to go back to their roots and make a metal record." They can't go to their roots and make a metal record if they have already made one.--Вик Ретлхед (talk) 20:10, 24 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
We shouldn't really be going by what someone from the band says for things like genre interpretation. Dave Mustaine is a primary source and according to that policy I linked to, interpretations should be cited from secondary sources. As of right now, I still support heavy metal being re-added as a second genre. 97.83.67.162 (talk) 08:24, 25 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
I agree that metal isn't supported for the album. In fact, allmusic lists the album as poprock. Flat Out let's discuss it
True, while hard rock is supported by Allmusic, Sputnikmusic and Decibel. As for LA Times saying the album follows the commercial trend in metal is reading between the lines that the genre is heavy metal. That sentence is not a description of the music.--Вик Ретлхед (talk) 13:53, 25 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
