Listing of playable characters

edit

@Soetermans:

As per this revert, I decided to look at the article guidelines Wikipedia:WikiProject_Video_games/Article_guidelines#Organization

Obviously Wikipedia isn't meant to be a strategy guide, but I did not intend the section to be such. Instead I wanted a listing of playable characters like what the Super Smash Bros. articles series has: Super_Smash_Bros.#Playable_characters - See my original revision WhisperToMe (talk) 03:35, 4 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi @WhisperToMe,
The difference between the Smash series and Rivals of Aether is that the playable characters in the former are notable for themselves. WP:VG discourages listing characters without any additional information or when it retells the plot from the characters' experience, as that's redundant. Character creation, inspiration, development and possible reception is what's ideal. From a gameplay point of view though, different playable characters can be expanded on, preferably in prose and with a couple of examples: in what way do they differ, how are they balanced, do they have special abilities, are there unlockable characters? That kind of information gives more insight into how the game works. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 10:22, 4 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
In that case, I agree that commentary would be ideal and hopefully it can be found in published sources. In the meantime I think the best way of communicating the need is to tag the section/text with "secondary source needed" or something to that effect so casual readers will understand the requirements. Otherwise they may mistakenly think no information on the characters at all is desired or may otherwise get discouraged. I am not a casual reader, but I do think it helps to have them in mind. Found a Kotaku article which specifically discusses the moveset properties of some characters and contrasts that with Smash. WhisperToMe (talk) 14:32, 5 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
