Meaning of Nar

edit

Just for interests sake, the word "nar" in Danish means "fool". Remembering that large parts of this part of England were under Viking settler control during the Viking age - and assuming that "nar" was present in Viking age Danish, I wonder if the name came from some meaning the Vikings had for the river - maybe they cast village fools into the river - "nar" also means "jester"

An Englishman in Denmark.

Unresolved points raised in introduction

edit

The introduction names two recognitions by public agencies. So far as I can determine, the body of this article does not address them -- in which case, they do not belong in an introduction

  • What were the improvements to the river that earned the "top 10" rating from the EA? The flood relief infrastructure? Water quality? Improved since what baseline date or event? By whom?
  • What attributes make it a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest?
