editRives was the 2004 National Poetry Slam Champion, which, along with all of his other notable work as a slam poet, puts him in the top echelon of his field. Therefore, I think this page should stay up.

Rives is one of the most original spoken word artists in the English speaking world. His work bringing together poetry, performance art and public speaking is pioneering - as recognised by TED (ref: www.ted.com - http://www.ted.com/index.php/speakers/rives.html) and will no doubt spawn a new category of contemporary poetry.
