Are queer and biker mutually exclusive?

The talk on this page could be forgiven for seeming like such was implied. And indeed, I suppose, it could be. But it seems so far afield of the norm that I cannot help but to ponder.

PS, Public Schools as Post-Script, is a bunch of bullspit, shit.
Such exclusivity,, is there no room for commune?

Heh heh, I agree, some people like to pretend there is an obvious difference between "butch gay" and straight biker.. I doubt anyone could really tell the two apart on the street, probably much to the consternation of the straight biker. ;) It's kind of denial to pretend R.H. doesn't dress in an extremely gay style..Dan Carkner 12:06, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

== "Artistic Failure" ==

"After Fight, he colloborated with guitarist John Lowery in an industrial-influenced project called 2wo which was produced by Trent Reznor and released on his Nothing Records label. The project was a commercial and artistic failure."

I removed the last sentence because it was ridiculously POV. I am not a fan of Halford's "2wo" -- I've never even heard it. But that had to go.

Data: Infobox musical artist

From his demonstrated performances, Halford appears to be Heavy Metal's benchmark Heldentenor, with a range from A2 up to A5 demonstrated at high volume (for further info on the Heldentenor vocal role see Tenor). Would the Voice Type parameter be appropriate in this case? (I discussed the matter last month at Template talk:Infobox musical artist#Voice type parameter.) - B.C.Schmerker 06:10, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

iPod

  • In the October 2006 issue of "Classic Rock" magazine he stated the only songs on his iPod are his own work and Queen (of which he has their entire catalog).

On the other hand, IMDB attributes this quote to him:

"My iPod is with me wherever I go. My iPod is all over the place - it's got Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, Wagner, and then it goes into Slayer, Emperor, everything by Sabbath, everything by Queen, Tool, Pantera. I could just go on and on. I'm just a chameleon when it comes to music - all kind of music touch my senses."

Hmmm. PenguinJockey 20:40, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm not even sure that piece of "trivia" even needs to be included. I'm sure most professional musicians have iPods these days that they listen to. If he was the only one who did it would be notable, but I'm certain he isn't. Besides which, I don't think Halford is that much of a snob that he'd only listen to his own songs. Immigration incident

Some mention should be made in this article about Halford's legal difficulties in coming to the USA a few years ago. If I can find a source about this online I will add it to the article. --Eastlaw 06:56, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Changed to "is gay"

Changed "homosexual" to "gay," the preferred term of gay men, in accordance with Wikipedia policy, and "was" to "is" since Rob Halford is still alive and gay. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kabanks (talkcontribs) 07:54, 22 November 2007 (UTC) Given the attempt at a encyclopedic tone, I believe "homosexual" is more appropriate. Homosexuals can call themselves whatever they want in everyday conversation, but I think in an encyclopedia they ought to be referred to as homosexuals for simplicity and formality's sake 97.116.71.7 (talk) 21:28, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

This Page Really Needs Some Work

Rob Halford is one of the greatest hard rock/metal singers ever. This page doesn't do justice to the "Metal God." Someone please do some research. I will try to as soon as I get time. Thanks

I agree. Take for example Bruce Dickinson's page. It is very detailed (maybe even too detailed) and informative about his personal life and his musical projects and stuff. http://members.firstinter.net/markster/MENU.html This page would be an excellent place to start with a research. HolyLand 13:26, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

I second this opinion! The personal section is basically bare! Also, no really history on Rob's rise to success. Basically, this article is tidbits of information, messed together. It needs work but unfortunately, I don't know much about Rob, and certainly not enough to give this article a make-over. Perhaps I'll do some research.--Irshgrl500 (talk) 02:12, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Trivia section

  • Why was my edit of the trivia section reverted? I took out the part about him standing in for Dio and Ozzy in Sabbath because it's already mentioned in the body of the article. It's not that significant that it needs to be mentioned twice. BrianFG 12:41, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
I've removed the section from trivia about Halford in Sabbath and moved it into the "career" section. Please don't revert it again, as it doesn't need to be there twice! Also removed the "trivia" about him being gay, as this is also mentioned elsewhere. BrianFG 23:59, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Removed (he is a homeosexual) from the end of the trivia about Halford liking bands that look weird because it wasn't necessary there and it doesn't fit.

That user keeps adding that comment. If it continues, I will be referring it to an administrator. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by BrianFG (talkcontribs) 03:06, 20 March 2007 (UTC).

KAMU MAKAN TAIK! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.82.92.122 (talk) 06:40, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

PS, Halford is god.

I was a wee bit, though only a wee bit, sad when he got back with Priest. Ya see, for the years just previously, I'd been subject to quite the treat..

Double Doses. Halford and Priest, guns blazin and Ripper'n 'er up. What could be better?

Almost, but not quite, a shame they're reunited.

Reunited,, it just feels so good.

C#6 from 1984

Vocal Range

Rob Halford did not have a six-octave range. Six octaves is the world record for men and involves notes well lower than Rob and sing, and much higher. I think this needs to be removed until a better source article can be found. Rob's is three at best. http://www.noiseaddicts.com/2009/04/extremes-of-human-voice/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.152.239.219 (talk) 18:51, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Place of birth

Halford's article entry states that he was born in Sutton Coldfield, yet when you go to Walsall's page, it states that he was born in Walsall. Norum 20:11, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

humph.

he may be gay but he's not rainbow queer. the gay flag may not be a could idea.24.144.137.244 22:56, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

The rainbow flag is the symbol of gay pride - it isn't intended to portray whether someone is "camp" or otherwise. Smurfmeister (talk) 14:50, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

So what is his range exactly?

5 octaves without falsetto. If I remember correctly 1610hz was recorded in 1975. Matt714 00:37, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Have you got a reputable source for this? If so, stick it in the article. BrianFG 03:23, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

No human being in the history of human being has ever had a 5-octave vocal range. Five octaves spans from the absolutely lowest of low basses—and I mean 1 in 10,000 basses to the absolute highest notes only the very highest sopranos can hit. 1610hz (just flat of G#6) is nonsense; if Mr. Halford made a sound at that pitch, it certainly wasn't from singing. Sebum-n-soda (talk) 20:39, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Now the page credits him with a six-octave vocal range, which is clearly preposterous. That spans the complete range of human voices, from bass to soprano (in fact more), with another octave tacked on at each end for good measure. This is equivalent to the range of a typical electric guitar, plus an octave lower and an octave higher. The guy can sing I know, but I'd think three octaves and change is more credible.152.76.1.244 (talk) 04:26, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

General edits

Is it just me or the current picture is hardly emphasizing on the "Metal God" status? :) // Gargaj 21:29, 2005 May 16 (UTC)

Get a new fucking picture, seriously. It's not that hard.

  • Took out the passage about the "queer leather culture" - Rob unequivocally took the leather stuff from bikers, as was evident ever since the first time he did it in '78 on the "Stained Class" tour, as well as the introduction of the Harley in '79. The connection was only made when he openly spoke about it - according to many it was just a press/PR stunt. There are many groupies who claim to have had sex with him, and most of their sexual songs cannot be taken but heterosexually.

  • I didn't say he isn't gay. My point was just that his leather attire doesn't come from bathhouses but from bikers. He has lots of pictures with barely-dressed models/groupies. I very much doubt he's a real homosexual, more probably gay/bisexual. I know the rumors about Phil Anselmo, that was even before he officially spoke about it, but when in '88 he said that "Love Zone" is about sex in the back seat of a Porsche... I don't really picture it between two men... Say Rob and Billy Gibbons.
Posing with women and writing about sex from a heterosexual viewpoint doesn't mean Halford isn't gay. George Michael did the same thing, and he is relentlessly homosexual. I'm not sure that Halford wasn't necessarily writing from a hetero VP all the time anyway. It's not that difficult to be ambiguous when writing song lyrics. The whole "Halford is gay" thing is way out of proportion anyway. No one cared when no one knew. It shouldn't be an issue now that everyone does. BrianFG 03:30, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
As did Freddie Mercury from Queen. XAlpha (talk) 17:48, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
    • That's only your personal opinion though. // Gargaj 14:43, 2005 July 10 (UTC)
    • You're right only about the Porsche part. The leather definitely doesn't come from Greenwich village, but from bikers. The last time I checked, the Hells Angels didn't wear leather thongs and dildos, but gear that looks very mush like the early priest leather outfits. :-) Www.jpfo.org

i've read in an interview were rob has also admitted being a sadist and a masochist. he's also said that he HAS had sex with women.

Infobox image + consensus

I tried adding an improved infobox photo (attached on the left) and it was reverted.

The current infobox image is blurred, soft focused and underexposed. The picture I added is well exposed, sharper, and provides a much clearer portrait. The downside to my image is it's a year older -- I considered this acceptable given the advantages.

I needed consensus before making this update, so would appreciate hearing any thoughts or comments.

On a side note: when exactly is consensus needed to change an image? I've updated several infobox images before (some of them on high traffic pages) and never had this come up before. Would be helpful to know going forward.

Entry in "Honorific nicknames in popular music"

Hello everyone, I tried to add Rob Halford to the list Honorific nicknames in popular music as Metal God, but there has to be a consensus about it, although there is a redirect to him. So, everyone who wants to see Rob Halford in that list, please add a comment to the Rob Halford section in Talk:Honorific nicknames in popular music. Thank you. --δα ωλα (talk) 17:11, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

Confusing dates

"On the last date of the tour for Painkiller in August 1991 at a show in Toronto, Halford rode onstage ... He then announced to the band on 4 July 1991 his departure"

This sequence doesn't make sense, but I don't know what the correct fix is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.105.179.124 (talk) 06:01, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
