Time-wasters

People! Do NOT insert frivolous 'citation needed' tags. Uncontroversial statements do NOT need citations, and as a rule of thumb it's best to have as few footnotes as possible. ONLY IF there is likely to be a substantial amount of controversy does a statement need a citation. Sartoresartus (talk) 11:21, 26 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Removed some NPOV comments about Dependence Day. They may well be true though, and I might read the book now to find out Coyote-37 16:06, 25 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:ApocNowCDCover.jpg

edit

Image:ApocNowCDCover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 07:14, 1 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Citation template removal, fact tags & misc

edit

Some of the fact tags seemed random and excessive. For example, there's no request for a reference regarding selling out Wembley arena, but there were requests for verification as to whether or not a CD or DVD had been issued. I tried to respond to all requests for references, but I took out the [citation needed] tag regarding the existence of DVDs and CDs. They are available for sale at robnewman.com and Amazon, among others. Removed citation template. Removed 1st entry under “further reading” as it is now cited as a footnote.Typing Monkey - (type to me) 22:34, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Acceptable use of non-free image robert_newman_history_of_oil_screenshot.jpg

edit

This image is an "acceptable use" of a non-free image. See WP:NONFREE, section 2.1.3. Also see the image page for detailed fair use rationale. This is in line with thousands of other screenshots used throughout Wikipedia. Typing Monkey - (type to me) 20:15, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Non-free images of living persons are not permissable in articles about that person. See WP:NONFREE, section 2.2.3. Cheers. Marwood (talk) 17:27, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
There's a pic of him in the dustjacket and pr materials for his book "The Fountain at the Centre of the World." I think that qualifies as non-lawsuitable. I could scan and post it. What think yeAvapepper (talk) 03:13, 2 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Total Eclipse of Descartes

edit

Could this article also put in that Newman has presented a BBC Radio Four comedy series called "Total Eclipse of Descartes"?Vorbee (talk) 17:35, 12 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

It's already listed in the 'Solo career' subsection of the 'Filmography and bibliography' section. JezGrove (talk) 17:47, 12 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
