The Odd Couple

Just wanted to drop a note that in Rob Reiner's TV history he played the part of Sheldn (that's right...without an "o") in the TV series "The Odd Couple." Sheldn was Myrna Turner's boyfriend. I deleted "ironically, he is extremely overweight, as pointed out by Trey Parker and Matt Stone in an episode of South Park" after the comment about Reiner not putting smoking in his movies; one, this isn't irony, and two, I doubt Parker and Stone were the first to point out that Reiner was overweight, something obviously visible to the public. I think the info about Parker and Stone's parody is perfectly placed under the section of parody, and should be listed there alone. Otherwise, we might as well head to every other subject and person that South Park has parodied and place their commentary alongside the opinions or facts of that subject or person.

In other words, a South Park parody is notable but doesn't warrant being placed in the meat of Reiner's article as running commentary.

After another editor pointed out one film in which there is a smoking character, it became apparent that a number of movies have smoking characters which Reiner has directed or produced (Stand By Me immediately stuck out). So I found a page with a quote from him that talks about limiting smoking in films, essentially, and changed his article accordingly. If someone can find a factual source for if and when Reiner decided completely to stop putting smoking in his films, then we could put the original sentiment back in (with the citation, of course).

Paul Sheldon smoked, but that was a big plot point. --MasterA113 20:39, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Mel Gibson

Comments critical of Mel Gibson as being anti-semetic, come across as being judgemental and pompous.

Reiner, the REAL hero

I watched this episode and was beyond stunned that was even allowed to air without a smoking warning. They portrayed the tobacco companies as benevolent and looking to give people "pleasure" and anti-smoking activists as lying autocrats trying to "impose their will on others". Libertarian tripe, if you ask me, just like most South Park epidsodes, even though they are hilarious. I make no secret about this, I feel the REAL hero of the episode was Rob Reiner, and I agree that only "hick states" allow such a haphazard method of determining where you can and cannot smoke. This episode was a great disservice to any who has been harmed by Second hand smoke. (EnglishEfternamn 21:43, 31 December 2006 (UTC))

Absolutely agreed with the person who wrote the above, how can he complain about others portraying a bad example to siblings- creating a bad environment in which children have to be around.

Please try to use the talk page for discussing the content of the article, and not The Truth^TM. What is relevant to this article about the South Park episode is that it is a culturally significant satire of Reiner's anti-smoking activism. I have tried to rewrite the section so that it frames the satire in terms of South Park's referenced and generally accepted libertarian view point. My hope is that this will further NPOV in that it allows the reader to see who made the satire as well as what they believe. Dates for Personal Info Wrong?

The date of birth for Rob Reiner is wrong, I believe, but there are too many conflicting sources. Apparently, Rob Reiner was born in 1945 (not 1947, as had previously been listed). The article says that Reiner and Penny Marshall were married from 1971 to 1981, then in the very next sentence says they were divorced in 1979. Is this another thing with conflicting sources?--Turmarion, 13:45 EDT, 19 September 2007

2. Fire Sale - actor (1977): actor should be Actor
3. This Is Spinal Tap - Director, co-star (1984): IMHO it should be "Director and Actor"
4. Sleepless in Seattle - Jay (1993): Jay should be Actor

Jewish?

I note that the article cites a BBC News report stating that Reiner is Jewish, but as his father Carl Reiner is an atheist, is there evidence that Rob converted to Judaism? DavidFarmbrough (talk) 08:18, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Middle Name?

On the page, it lists Rob's middle name as "Norman", while other sources (including his interview on the Archive of American Television) say he has no middle name, as neither his parents had ones. What is the real answer? Fiffy032 (talk) 01:46, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Writer/Songwriter credit for Spinal Tap

Should writer and/or songwriter (or co-writer/co-songwriter) be added to the filmography entry for This is Spinal Tap? If not, should these credits be mentioned in the article? He is credited as co-writing the film and received a shared songwriter credit for the songs which appeared in the film and for other songs which appeared on the film's soundtrack album. Could use image from All in the Family

He looks so different from how he looked in All in the Family that I think a photo of those days would be useful in the article. Long hair/mustache/slender to bald/beard/corpulent. Re my above comments, those listed in the CAMEO section are "Throw Momma from the Train, Sleepless in Seattle, Bullets Over Broadway, The First Wives Club, Primary Colors, and Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star". It was "Throw Momma...", "First Wives Club" and "Primary Colours" that were not mentioned in the filmography. I have amended this, and they now are--TimothyJacobson (talk) 18:16, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Rob Reiner and Perry v. Schwarzenegger (Prop 8/Gay Marriage) Federal trial

I witnessed some of the Perry v. Schwarzenegger trial in person at the Federal courthouse in San Francisco. I encountered Mr. Reiner in the elevator, when he commended me about my dog, whom I carried with me in the elevator going to the public viewing room.
I decided to do a Google search about Mr. Reiner and his relationship with the Perry v. Schwarzenegger trial. I found the following article saying that Mr. Reiner is a leading political activist on this issue:

Neither Rob Reiner nor Travis Tedford has mentioned anything about The Water Expression, and no reliable media sources appear in a cursory Google search. If somebody wishes this film to be noted, please provide evidence that its two primaries have some knowledge of it; otherwise, this should be treated as a non-obvious prank.
