Rob Roy locomotive?
editWhat is a locomotive called Rob Roy? I had a sense it existed, googled and there are many such references to model locomotives, but I couldn't figure out what "the original" was. Seems like it ought to be in wikipedia someplace 69.201.168.196 (talk) 01:35, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
- I'm a bit confused too but is this maybe it? Also, see Martin Evans (model engineer). I think that's your original, but it's really not my field ... best wishes DBaK (talk) 19:25, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

– The first sentence of the disambig page makes it clear that the historical figure Rob Roy MacGregor is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for Rob Roy: "Rob Roy most often refers to the Scottish hero Rob Roy MacGregor."

- Oppose when I search "Rob Roy" most of the results are about a particular work, especially the Walter Scott novel or the 1995 film. You could argue that the original Rob Roy is a sort of broad concept article, but the fictional derivatives are not all that closely related to the historical figure. However, the risk of bad links to the historical figure when fictional works are meant tip me into firmly opposing. If you look at NGRAMS[1] most of the hits come in the wake of the Scott novel, arguably indicating that the the novel is more primary than the historical figure. - Oppose for Buidhe's reasons. Statements on DAB pages do not confer notability. WP:PTOPICs invariably collect bad links, and WP:BPAT doesn't need another one to monitor. Narky Blert (talk) 12:21, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per buidhe and Narky Blert. WP:NOPRIMARYTOPIC. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 00:57, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
- Support first move, but redirect the pagename to Rob Roy MacGregor. The fact that so many things are named after or adapted from the life of the historical figure indicates their primary historical importance. BD2412 T 05:16, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
- Weak oppose although many of the items to indeed refer to MacGregor there are some unrelated uses such as the place names so overall given the usage of some of the works I don't see a clear primary topic. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:25, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
- Neutral I would have assumed the Rob Roy (cocktail) was the primary topic. Neither the page views nor the "derivative name" arguments convince me either way here. 力 (power~enwiki, π, ν) 16:57, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- Support 1st, oppose 2nd. Rob Roy should be a primary redirect to Rob Roy MacGregor. -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:47, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- Support 1st, oppose 2nd. For all the reasons described above. Also agree that Rob Roy should be a primary redirect to Rob Roy MacGregor. CdnMCG (talk) 21:12, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose both. Fails as primary topic based on page views older ≠ wiser 21:20, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose There is no clear primary topic - leave unchanged — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 21:23, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- Support. The historical character is the obvious primary topic. The book and film are based on him. If the film Braveheart had been titled William Wallace instead, we wouldn't create a dab. I am not aware of any other case were a historical character has a dab page just because there are other things named after them. Vpab15 (talk) 22:49, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- Support this request in its entirety! Rob Roy has not gone down in history as "Robert Roy MacGregor", he has gone down in history as "Rob Roy", so that is the WP:COMMONNAME and should be the title of this article (not just redirected). It's just me, but when I think of Rob Roy, I think of the Lange–Neeson film (GREAT film), which enjoys almost the same page views as the folk hero. It is the folk hero that all else is named for, it is the folk hero that must be given "long-term significance" as primary topic, and it is the folk hero, Rob Roy, who by that name can inspire us all!
