Old talk

edit

I think there might be two Rob Thomases here. One from "Matchbox 20", and the other one a writer who was a member of a more obscure band "Hey Zeus". Can anyone confirm this?

Well, i know everything in the article can be attributed to the MB20 Rob except the thing about the UPN show. That I don't know. Is that what you mean? Everyking 15:02, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Yep. I recently read an interview with the UPN Thomas, which I added to the article. I don't follow Veronica Mars, but I have serious doubts that they are the same person.
I think they're two different people. I looked it up in TV Tome and it lists them as two different people. Issa2 06:57, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Matchbox Twenty split

edit

I removed this because it doesn't cite any sources and Rob Thomas has repeatly said Matchbox Twenty hasn't split up. One of the members left (Adam Gaynor) the band in Jan 05.

Rob is currently solo, and the band has officially split as of November 05.

*The band never split, and has a new single out, and an album this fall. Ejfetters 05:19, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Requested move

edit

I've requested this article be moved to Rob Thomas to remove the redirect page there currently. I'm sure that 999 out of 1000 people searching for the Rob Thomas article are looking for the singer, not the screenwriter from the 90s. Anyway, we'll see what happens. Harro5 07:53, July 12, 2005 (UTC)

It was requested that this article be renamed but there was no consensus for it to be moved. violet/riga (t) 19:48, 18 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Alleged affair with Tom Cruise?

edit

Should it be included or not?

  • disagree; shows rob's sense of humour, etc.
  • it is npov. its a moment when thomas received mainstream press attention.

It should be included. I mean there were rumors he was gay!

  • We've got his height in here, which certainly isn't newsworthy - I don't see why the allegation can't go into the article. It's in Tom Cruise's, after all, and RT was very gracious about it.

Solo Career

edit

Updated with reference to the 2005 solo tour, and to reference his new single. Michigan user 16:09, 21 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

  • I know RT, is now solo, but whats the best way to put this on the main page? As i understand MB20, is still active, even with RT doing solo work for the past year and half. --Amckern 04:23, 29 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

influences

edit

in the VH1 Story Tellers about Matchbox Twenty, Rob says his biggest influences are Tom Petty or Willie Nelson.

New trivia section

edit

I don't think that things mentioned like height, weight, and his favorite authors belong in an introduction section... There are more important things about him that should stay there, but alot of it should be moved into a new "trivia" section... Thoughts? --Jpagel 15:57, 28 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure if trivia sections are still considered encyclopaedic by wiki standards, but if a non musical career section is put in, his guest appearance on "It's always sunny in Philadelphia" should be noted. ExtremeSquared (talk) 03:28, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:LonelyNoMore.jpg

edit

Image:LonelyNoMore.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:02, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Public Pix

edit

Hey Guys,

My name is Orsolya and I'm from Hungary. I wrote the Hungarian Wiki article on RT. hu:Rob Thomas .

Amyway, I just wanted to help you with the pic problem. If you go to Flickr.com, you can find many public pix of Rob and MBT that you could upload here and then there won't be any pic remove!

Here is the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/francinedaveta/434642577/

Hope I helped.

Does anyone know about Rob Thomas supposedly having a son, named Mason, from a previous relationship? I remember seeing this once, but have never heard any mention of it since. Does he have a relationship with his son? Does he even have a son?24.29.77.185 (talk) 16:19, 4 January 2008 (UTC) Cheri, NYReply

Trucker?

edit

What is with the trucker nonsense? While there is a Rob Thomas who works as Flex-Mor, is there any source substantiating the claim that this RT is that one? It smells like vandalism.JohnDO|Speak your mind 06:30, 17 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Who's Bryan Padillon? There's no source and he doesn't have an article which leads me to believe it's spam.

Merge?

In response to your comment,"Rob's wife Marisol is a sight for sore eyes but she doesn't seem to have any notability apart from him," I would like to respond.

1) I agree, she is a sight for sore eyes, and as a fellow woman, I'd better describe it as the woman is completely gorgeous. In Rob's own discussion on the subject, he is extremely humble, commenting when asked about his good looks that nobody really looks at him the way people might think they would because they are too busy looking at his gorgeous wife, because in fact, as he describes her, "she is really hot."

2) Which leads to the crazy notion that this woman has no notability apart from him...if Erpert had read the information on Mrs. Thomas, or Maldonado-Thomas, then Erpert would know that this woman is a Puerto-Rican born model, who was introduced to him by Carlos Santana. If she was known by Santana first, then she was already notable by someone else, not to mention that she is in fact one gorgeous woman, and model on her own, therefore, she could have been and still could be, completely notable in her own right. In other words, you are flat out wrong in your assertion above.

3) She is the stepmother to his son from a previous relationship, and since the child was born prior to her coming into Mr. Thomas' life, she was in fact a mother figure to his son from the very moment they started dating, when they met in Montreal while she was vacationing...or at least I am quite certain he saw her that way, even if she did not. As far as I am concerned, that makes her even more notable than the fact that she is gorgeous, or she is the wife of Rob Thomas, because she made the conscious decision to foster and nurture another mother's child, not to mention her also gorgeous man's child. She CHOSE that child, as if that boy might as well have been adopted by her and that is incredibly special, forget who she is married to, because now no matter how long they stay married, even if they were to divorce or separate by death, she will still be the stepmother and mother figure to his son.

As far as whether the information that is available on each of them should be merged here on Wikipedia, I think it definitely should be with the consent of each of the parties who have biographies included here, that being Mr. Rob Thomas, and his wife, Mrs. Marisol Maldonado-Thomas. Mr. Thomas has spoken of his wife as if they had a spiritual union long before they were even legally, formally married, so I am guessing he would consent, not sure about his wife, as she seems to live under the radar when it comes to their personal life, as it should be, although unfortunately, because she does so that leaves her notability open to critics such as yourself, Erpert. How very sad... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iammissannette (talkcontribs) 19:31, 4 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Dang, calm down, will you? And everything you said has little to do with notability from a Wikipedia standpoint. Erpert Who is this guy? | Wanna talk about it? 19:43, 4 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hey, all, I got here from the third opinion noticeboard, and I thought I'd weigh in. To me, it seems like a pretty clear-cut merge. All of the sources in her article are in reference to her relationship with Rob Thomas. What you have to remember here, annette (if I can call you that for brevity's sake), is that notability on Wikipedia is not inherited. Just because she knew a notable person, like Carlos Santana or Rob Thomas, does not make her notable enough for her own article. She certainly should be talked about on Wikipedia; it's just that she should be talked about here, not in her own article. Also, a good thing to remember is that nobody owns Wikipedia articles, not even their subjects, so asking these two people their opinions on whether the article should be merged doesn't really matter that much (except for their opinion as a fellow Wikipedia editor, of course!).
Finally, I'd like to remind you to avoid personal attacks. I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but the comment you posted on Erpert's talk page was pretty combative, and questioning his motives for editing is failing to assume good faith, which is a fundamental part of Wikipedia. We're all here to make Wikipedia better; in that respect, we're all on the same team. Still, thanks for trying to improve Wikipedia! Writ Keeper 14:39, 18 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
