editI can't find a single 'reliable source' that mentions this. However, one of Knecht's colleagues in the discipline of French Renaissance history, has mentioned that Knecht is dead on Academia. https://www.academia.edu/109008517/Robert_Knecht_Francis_I_and_the_History_of_the_French_Court
