The use of the word dissipation for the large scales is incorrect. The energy transfers from the larger scales to smaller scales through nonlinear mechanisms, and it is not dissipated. Elmalevo (talk) 14:42, 23 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Kraichnan

edit

I read his obituary today. Sad loss. He was a major figure in the physics of turbulence.Likebox (talk) 19:55, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

A mention that Bob was Einstein's assistant (from 1949-1950 at Princeton I think) would be appropriate. He was the last assistant to Einstein and the only graduate assistant. [this information should be verified]

Translation from German

I need a dictionary to complete this--- sorry for saving an incomplete translation.Likebox (talk) 21:50, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm translating from a dictionary--- I have no feeling for the nuances. It would be great if a native German speaker looked it over and fixed mistakes.Likebox (talk) 22:25, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Place of birth

edit

Kraichnan seems to have been born in Philadelphia, in America. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.160.51.183 (talk) 10:23, 29 December 2015 (UTC) His mother was Anna M. Kraichman and his father was Max "Robert M." Kraichman. Max was born in Russia, in 1904. Max changed his name at some point. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.160.51.183 (talk) 11:01, 29 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
