editThe article seems more than a little gushing towards Ryan. Needs a re-write.Steve-O 07:07, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
Politics
editI agree that this article is a bit gushy. I tried to redress this problem by starting a Politics setion. I cut out language from the Career section that seemed too subjective or too laudatory and instead gave some factual details regarding Ryan's political sentiments. (Somehow, though, I wasn't logged in when I did it.) More can be done, but hopefully this is a start.Pmcalder 06:24, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
"In contrast to the often violent, bigoted roles he played, he was a liberal democrat". I removed the "in contrast of the often violent, bigoted roles he played" to just "he was a liberal democrat so the statement isn't so loaded —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dondoolee (talk • contribs) 01:49, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Not an only child
editHi, the info regarding Robert Ryan being an only child is incorrect. He in fact had a brother who died of influenza when Ryan was 8 years old. This info is available from Franklin Jarlett's biography on Robert, Ryan Robert Ryan: A Biography and Critical Filmography (McFarland & Company, 2007) p.4. As I'm new here I didn't want to edit the actual page without posting this message first. There are a number of other interesting facts about Ryan that I think are justifiable to include but I'll wait until I hear a response to this before suggesting them.Joan Doe (talk) 09:02, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
updating the “citation needed”
editI saw that there is a “citation needed” at the end of the “personal life” section, followed by the title of the book. I went to Amazon and found more publishing info (date, publisher) for the biography, but I do not have page number, etc., for the fact in question. I did add the publisher and date; in my editorial note I checked off minor and added the Amazon link, but without a specific page reference I am not sure how to create an actual footnote. Return to acting
editThe following sentence needs to be fixed (Ryan's role was not a film noir; rather, the film was a film noir): "Ryan's breakthrough film role as an anti-Semitic killer in Crossfire (1947) was a film noir based on Brooks' novel...."2600:6C44:C80:2E1:80EB:3953:6EE:E246 (talk) 12:06, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
Link to acronyms?
editHi, why not link to articles like RKO and MGM, for those who don't know them? T 84.208.65.62 (talk) 02:30, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
