Roberto Saviano is an Italian writer who published his first book "Gomorra" in 2006. He grew up with the Gomorra organisation in the area around Naples and invested several years in research of the organisation. After publishing his book, he said that he wouldn't write it again because he was threatened with death.

Reuters has the story. Should this be mentioned in the article? --138.237.134.14 (talk) 18:49, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Right, done. Feel free to expand if you want. Happy editing, Goochelaar (talk) 19:26, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

About to graduate / to be graduated

edit

A contributor had written "he graduated in Philosophy", then another changed it to "he was graduated in philosophy". No objection on lower-case for philosophy in this case. Yet both active and passive usages of the verb "to graduate" are currently acceptable, though the former prevails, the latter having become somewhat old-fashioned (cf. full explanation with history of this verb at The Free Dictionary). In this situation, the choice should be up to the first contributor. I reverted consequently. Regards, --Zack Holly Venturi (talk) 09:15, 20 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Conservatives authors" (sic)

edit

Control-F it to find it. This is grammatically wrong but I don't know what to write instead, particularly as those aren't conservative authors. Celine was viewed as shocking and revolutionary for showing WWI in a bad light. The context puts these authors in contrast to the anti-Fascist authors who influenced Saviano at university. So maybe this should be rephrased as "traditional authors" or "mainstream authors"? As I say, I'm not correcting this myself because I don't know enough about the context. 65.94.45.100 (talk) 20:15, 3 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Significant deletions reversed

edit

There were about 3K worth of deletions done to this article by an IP editor. Rather than investigate each one, and because roll-backs within edits are complex, I reversed the edits and am starting this section for discussion. Note that before making major edits on an article that has a significant history, it is a good idea to communicate on the talk page about what you wish to do and why. I'll try to summarize some of the edits that are quite visible.

  1. Added a quote at the top of the article - this is not within WP style. Should not be put there.
  2. Removed the paragraph beginning "Since 2006, following the publication of his bestselling book Gomorrah ... The statement about Eco should probably be removed from that, but the rest of the paragraph seems ok to me
  3. Removed almost all of the references. I think this was an error as the IP was using the visual editor and probably overwrote whole sections. However, the references are essential and must not be removed.

I'm up for doing an edit of this article - after discussion - because it isn't ideal, but this particular edit eviscerated the article and was contrary to Wikipedia policy in various areas. LaMona (talk) 18:48, 2 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I now see that the quote was added earlier. I think, if we wish to keep it, it needs to go into the body of the article. Nothing should precede the Lead - this could mess up external uses of the article. I'll edit it to conform to Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Lead_section. LaMona (talk) 18:52, 4 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Overall tone of this page?

edit

Hi all. I don't normally contribute to wikipedia, but isn't this article kind of strange? It reads as if it was written by its subject and is really quite editorialised. 118.209.220.87 (talk) 06:30, 30 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have a similar lack of experience (and time to edit) but I agree. The way Saviano's intellectual inspirations, Pound and Evola -- actual fascists -- and Céline -- a great novelist but notably racist to the point of incoherence -- are described as "traditional and conservative" stinks of NPOV white-washing. (I should add that I'm in no way calling Saviano himself a fascist, as he is anything but, but surely that list of references could be described in more accurate and descriptive terms. MasqueDesRonces (talk) 19:08, 22 October 2018 (UTC))Reply

Bibliography

edit

I have commenced a tidy-up of the Bibliography section using cite templates. Capitalization and punctuation follow standard cataloguing rules in AACR2 and RDA, as much as Wikipedia templates allow it. ISBNs and other persistent identifiers, where available, are commented out, but still available for reference. This is a work in progress; feel free to continue. Plagiarism

edit

Ho rimosso il paragrafo "Saviano on the Palmesano incident" per i seguenti motivi:

1. innanzitutto il caso non è in alcuno modo collegato con la vicenda "plagio", a meno di non voler insinuare, come in effetti pare di capire, che le accuse di plagio siano una sorta di "rappresaglia" nei confronti dello scrittore per le sue denunce. Ma Saviano è stato condannato per plagio in via definitiva;

2. all'epoca del "caso Palmesano" il Corriere di Caserta non era edito dalla Libra Editrice (tra l'altro non esiste nessun "Gruppo Libra") ma da altra società editrice;

3. non è vero che nella sentenza c'è scritto che il clan influenzava la "linea editoriale del giornale". Nel provvedimento si legge che l'ex direttore Gianluigi Guarino, che non era imputato nel processo ma fu sentito come vittima delle minacce del boss, aveva assecondato la richiesta del boss della camorra allontanando il giornalista all'insaputa dell'editore, come si può leggere alla pagina 36 della sentenza disponibile a questo indirizzo URL: link alla sentenza;

4. non è vero che le accuse di plagio nei confronti di Saviano sono successive agli interventi dello scrittore al Festivaletteratura di Mantova e nella trasmissione "Che tempo che fa". La prima citazione in giudizio per plagio, intentata dal giornalista di Cronache di Napoli Simone Di Meo, risale al 2007, un anno prima del Festival di Mantova;

--Ucc1979 (talk) 23:02, 7 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

I would have expected this news story and its background to be mentioned: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-67094975 Ralph Corderoy (talk) 05:57, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
