editIn January 2010 it was revealed that an ex-All Black had sexually harassed a 15-year-old girl and assaulted her 17-year-old male friend who came to her aid. The identity of this player was soon revealed to be Brooke.
In the early hours of New Year's Day the teenager and her friends were holidaying on Denarau Island. Brooke allegedly grabbed the 15-year-old's buttocks, and tried again after the girl told him to stop and that it hurt. When the girl's 17-year-old Australian friend tried to help her, Brooke grabbed his throat and threw him to the ground[1], telling him to "settle down".[2] According to a witness, security guards did not come to the aid of the girl.[3]
It is believed that Brooke had been drinking.[4] Later that day he tried to apologise for his actions.[2] The Fijian police are handling the incident, but are undecided on whether to charge Brooke.[3] The mother is reported to have stated that she did not want to get Brooke convicted, but would like a sincere apology.[3]
