Fair use rationale for Image:SmashingPumpkins-Rocket.jpg

edit

Image:SmashingPumpkins-Rocket.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:31, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Genre

edit

I was recently repeatedly harassed (over a seemingly harmless edit to a totally unrelated article) by a user who also took it upon himself to revert a dozen or so edits which changed the genres of random 1990's rock and roll recordings. His objection in each case was that unsourced edits had been made without discussing the matter on the talk page first. "Rocket" had its genre changed back to the rather generic "Rock" from the more specific "Alternative rock, psychedelic rock, grunge." I took it upon myself to apply the three genre tags from the Siamese Dream album (each of which actually had a reliable secondary source citation.) "Rocket" was very much of a piece with the rest of the album, so this seems like an unobjectionable edit. The original genre tag was added with no discussion on this Talk page whatsoever. I reverted unsourced/undiscussed genre changes made by another editor.[1] Please see WP:GWAR.
If you take issue with me and/or my editing, please discuss the issue on my talk page. If necessary, I can refer you to other appropriate venues. This page is for discussing improvements to this article.
As for the sources you provided, the Allmusic page almost refers to "Rocket" as alternative rock. As I personally agree it is alt rock, I'm not challenging it, though it does need a better source.
The source for grunge is fine.
The source for alternative metal referred to the album, not the song. - SummerPhDv2.0 02:49, 24 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
