  • DHL now sponsors the "THE MLB DELIVERY MAN OF THE MONTH AWARD"

http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/fan_forum/dhl/index.jsp

The only commercially sponsored award? What about the Rawlings Gold Glove or the Louisville Silver Slugger?

error re years

edit

In the 2nd paragraph, the final sentence says: "Eckersley, Righetti, and Lidge are the only award recipients to have played for the winning team in a no-hit game, in 1977, 1983, and 2003 respectively." The years don't match up with the 3 players cited. Should this sentence be deleted? Eagle4000 (talk)

Ummm...it is correctly matched up with the 3 players cited... -- [[SRE.K.A.L.|L.A.K.ERS]] 04:06, 31 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Still an official MLB award

 – Rolaids website updated.—Bagumba (talk) 07:44, 25 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Is this still an official MLB award? Curiously MLB.com doesnt list winners after 2006 and does not mention Rolaids as a corporate sponsor. Does the Major League Baseball Delivery Man Award replace Rolaids as the official MLB award? BaseballChronology.com says the sponsorship ended in 2003, but not sure how reliable this site is. Rolaids didnt even bother to update of have a press release of its 2010 winners. I didn't find any other news regarding he status of the award changing. —Bagumba (talk) 20:18, 18 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

There is also a MLB.com article that refers to the award as "what was then called the Rolaids Relief Man of the Year award."—Bagumba (talk) 21:27, 5 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Interesting. It's quite possibly been discontinued. They MLB Delivery Man Award used to be sponsored by DHL, and there was no announcement for the ending of that. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:36, 5 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

According to Baseball-Reference, the Rolaids award still exists. As Bagumba notes, however, it does seem odd that "Rolaids didnt even bother to update of have a press release of its 2010 winners". After MLB established its own award in 2005, it does seem that MLB decided in 2007 to stop listing the Rolaids award as one of its official awards. Eagle4000 (talk) 22:26, 5 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

The website for the award is still active, and still has updated standings for the 2011 season. [1] Y2Kcrazyjoker4 (talkcontributions) 03:07, 6 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
I am tempted to reword the opening sentence, "The Rolaids Relief Man Award is an annual Major League Baseball (MLB) award", so that it doesnt sound like its an award still sanctioned by MLB as opposed to an award given by an organization to an MLB player. Trying to avoid original research, but should we mention that the Delivery Man of the Year has since been created and is an official MLB award. Unfortunately, I can find no source that says that Rolaids Relief is no longer affiliated with MLB although all signs point to it, and its unclear if Rolaids is even handing out an award anymore or just maintains a website.—Bagumba (talk) 03:38, 6 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
A note: If it is determined that this is no longer an MLB-sanctioned award, then it must also be removed from its featured topic as per that topic's inclusion criteria. — KV5Talk11:10, 6 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
It looks like another year with no official announcement made about the winner or presentation of the trophy. Seems like sources just do the computation and say they won the Rolaids Award, but there is no more real tangible award. Of course no official source on this one way or another.—Bagumba (talk) 23:42, 2 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Rolaids finally updated its website for 2010 and 2011 winners. —Bagumba (talk) 07:44, 25 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
