Date founded
editFounded March 1065
Doesn't make sense.
Founded in 1998? The date contradicts Rolls-Royce having made cars in 1904... --Jamie 20:43, 23 April 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamie L (talk • contribs)
The company "Rolls-Royce" or "Rolls-Royce Motors" may well have made cars in 1904 but the company Rolls-Royce Motor Cars was indeed founded in 1998.213.48.59.2 (talk) 14:13, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
This page confuses the old Rolls-Royce Limited (which is now Rolls-Royce PLC and Bentley Motors Limited) and Rolls-Royce Motor cars which was a completely new company founded in 1999 and has no heritage to the original company. It was created on the back of a licensing deal between BMW and Rolls-Royce PLC that allowed BMW to use the name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.113.205.43 (talk) 10:57, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
Badge and Phantom III
editThat the color of the badge turned from red to black because of the death of Sir Henry Royce is a legend. In fact, the change occurred in 1933. Although this was the year of his death, he was still alive at that time. The reason was simply that black harmonized with more body colors than red. As the Phantom III was introduced in 1936, it can't be the first RR model with black logo. There were several Phantom II, 20/25, and 25/30 cars with the black logo before. --Chief tin cloud (talk) 12:22, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- mostly done, i only found a reference to expose the main text as a legend though.

What is a direct relationship with a past model of car?
edit"The Rolls-Royce Motor Cars subsidiary of BMW AG has no direct relationship to Rolls-Royce branded vehicles produced prior to 2003." What? What does that mean? I would have tried to find the original source for this statement but there isn't one. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 04:53, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
It means it was a completely new company set up by BMW and did not include any part of the previous Rolls-Royce car company except for the name, which was licenced from Rolls-Royce Plc. AlexCGW (talk) 16:36, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
This is the current version: Although the Rolls-Royce brand has been in use since 1906, the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars subsidiary of BMW AG has no direct relationship to Rolls-Royce-branded vehicles produced prior to 2003. The Bentley Motors Limited subsidiary of Volkswagen AG is the direct successor to Rolls-Royce Motors and various other predecessor entities that produced Rolls-Royce and Bentley branded cars between the foundation of each company and 2003, when the BMW-controlled entity started producing cars under the Rolls-Royce brand.
This statement is biased. It favors the VW claim over the BMW claim. Wikipedia should not take sides. BMW DOES have a direct relationship to Rolls Royce prior to 2003. The article shows it so it cannot not deny it earlier in the article. Prior to 2003, according to Wikipedia (unless you think Wikipedia is false and unreliable) supplied key parts including engines to Rolls Royce. Therefore, it was at least a major supplier.
I have no employment or contracts with BMW AG nor VW AG. I have no beef about either company and no desire to help one of them. I just don't like to see bias even if unintentional.
Suggested fix: Although the Rolls-Royce brand has been in use since 1906, the fate of the brand diverged between 1998 and 2003. In 2003, the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars subsidiary of BMW AG, which had been a major supplier to the brand up to 2003, began manufacturing vehicles with the Rolls Royce name. Volkswagen AG took ownership of the Bentley name as well as previous Rolls Royce production facilities and previous Rolls Royce designs. Carunitfiat903 (talk) 22:14, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

Somebody should change the first sentence in the sales section. There were obviously more cars sold in 2018 than in 2014. Bollerich (talk) 20:56, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

It is difficult to see how this could not be clear. The first sentence in the sales section states "The all-time high record of sales (beginning in 2005) was achieved in 2014, at 4,063 cars", directly above a chart that clearly shows that 4,107 cars were sold in 2018, and 4,107 is clearly a larger number than 4,063 (by 44). The chart itself has a link to a Financial Times article which is the source of the information. If that is still unclear, "change 2014 to 2018," and "change 4,063 to 4,107." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.199.141.110 (talk) 20:17, 4 April 2022 (UTC)

To change the image displayed top right under "Rolls-Royce Motor Cars" to monogram only as the company have changed their logo. Please find Rolls-Royce Motor Cars homepage as reference.MC112233 (talk) 12:25, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

As when people search 'Rolls-Royce Motor Cars', the image linked on Google is with the Wikipedia page, people will then be confused with the old identity. Please could the badge be updated to the monogram to reveal the latest logo? Please contact user MC112233 if Wikipedia requires any logo file to make the change.

Proposed Change on the logo
editPlease could I get a consensus to change the logo on the Wikipedia page to monogram? As suggested in the third party websites, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has updated the logo to monogram, double R. As for the original badge, it is still on the car above the grill, but not as major logo.
This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
- Specific text to be added or removed: To change the logo from the badge to monogram[White background, black for the double R]
