Talk:Romanian Intelligence Service

Latest comment: 7 years ago by Mrazvan22 in topic "Current Controversies" section

There was very opinionated hidden article within the page and even the short trext is hardly NPOV. The article was apparently work of Orioane (talk · contribs). I wonder why it was not removed, maybe after it would have been used as a source - Skysmith 18:28, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I posted the budget of this institution but it was reverted to classified, why is that? The source was reliable as in the Finance Ministry.

"Current Controversies" section

edit

I believe there is misleading/fake/non-NPOV information in the "Current Controversies" section of the SRI article:

(1) The section is trying to discredit the SRI by highlighting alleged involvement into justice by cooperating with the DNA. While it is a known fact that the DNA has in the past relied on SRI phone tapping due to the DNA not having the necessary technical equipment, this is not the case anymore after a recent OUG in 2016 [1] that gave DNA the power to perform phone tapping. Moreover, there is also a dedicated section on "phone-tapping section" within the article which is written with a NPOV.

(2) Many of the articles referenced, such as those by Henry Jackson Society, are the result of the lobby of Alexander Adamescu, the son of Dan Adamescu, a romanian businessman who was himself arrested 1-2 years ago by the DNA, as explained here: [2] There are probably other secondary articles that cite these.

(3) Similar controversy sections have also been previously added to the DNA and Laura_Codruța_Kövesi articles. These sections were very similar to each other and look like their purpose is to discredit persons such as Laura Codruța Kovesi or Romanian institutions like DNA fighting against corruption. I have fixed those pages in the meantime, but the page history is still available if you want to see them.

(4) Some of the statements come from unreliable sources and don't have NPOV. These include opinion articles that do not represent the mainstream view of the subject (e.g. [3]).

While I agree that the SRI needs more transparency, I believe that the editor who added the "Current Controversies" section didn't want to just provide facts, but to present misleading/non-neutral information to discredit the service. I will thus remove the section. If you have any objections, please write here first before modifying the "controversies" section. Razvan Valentin Marinescu 16:56, 19 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
