Role

edit

Her role in the 1920s is too short:

Cohen transferred large sums of money to the Communist parties

The known source - Francis Beckett “Stalin’s British victims” David1886 (talk) 00:34, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Rose Cohen. The title of the article.

Dear Vif12vf,

Thank you for your special interest in Rose Cohen, though I don’t understand your rage, and why you are threatening me. - It’s very much against the collaborative spirit of Wikipedia, and against its guidelines.

The title “British Stalin’s victim”  is the title of the book written about her by Francis Beckett and published in England in 2004 by Sutton Publishing. She is featured on the cover. It’s by far the most comprehensive source of information about her, published by a very respected author. And while she was indeed a member of the Communist party, it’s just a political affiliation, and you don’t find Wiki articles saying “Boris Johnson, Conservative”, though he is the leader of the Conservative Party.

Rose Cohen was a feminist, a socialist, a journalist, and a member of the Communist party. Unfortunately, her most life defining role was being a British Stalin’s victim, as it’s clearly featured in “British Stalin’s victims” book.

Your rage and insistence on the title reminds me of witch hunting, black labeling of people affiliated with the communist party in the US, and also a well documented sentiment among the British officials at the time of her arrest, that because she was a member of the Comminist party she somehow deserved her tragic fate in the USSR.

Thank you, David1886 David1886 (talk) 21:06, 26 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

The title of the article should be Rose Cohen (Stalin’s British victim). David1886.

Rose Cohen (communist)Rose Cohen – Does not seem to require disambiguation, especially this controversial and WP:UNDUE one. Only other article with similar name is Rose Gollup Cohen which can be addressed with a hatnote. Dl2000 (talk) 20:09, 23 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@David1886: Your concerns are noted. In the section above, a proposal is ongoing to change the title to simply "Rose Cohen". It looks like this proposal will succeed, and assuming you agree with it, you can even voice your support. That will solve the naming issue entirely. How on earth are we using this as a source? None of us has access to these records, and they are anyway the records of the NKVD. Clearly not a reliable source, should not be referenced without stating clearly that this is what the NKVD were saying as it is a primary source. FOARP (talk) 10:39, 1 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Most prominent as a communist

edit

I get the well-intentioned efforts to concentrate on her career with the suffragettes, but the content of the article is pretty clear that Cohen was much more notable as a communist and victim of Stalinism than she was as a suffragette - there is very little to be said on that topic.
