The population of Rossland is aproximately 3,500 not all of which are permanent residents.

Elevation Error

edit

The elevation of Rossland is 1023 m and not 600 m.

I am not really sure how to fix the typo...

I checked the elevation in the website of The Atlas of Canada. You're right, the elevation is slightly higher than 1000 m. People can check at this URL (sorry it's long) :

Rozzland?

edit

By my read of the newly-placed IPA - /ˈrɔːzlənd/ - if that /z/ is what it usually is in English, it's totally wrong; I have half-a-dozen friends from Rossland, not one of them pronounces it with a "z" - to do so would sound liek the way Americans pronounce the Fraser River as "Frazier", i.e. "heard but not correct". If /z/ actually is the same as "ss" that's fine; but I don't think it is.Skookum1 (talk) 18:53, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

"largest city" hype

edit

I see that got adjusted, but in any case all that history page said was "one of the largest cities in WEstern Canada" etc, it doesn't say anything about being BC's largest (Vancouver was 25,000 by 1907 so that's a hard number to beat, too, and New West was in the same range at the time, likewise Victoria though a bit less). Lots of towns in BC were, briefly, "the largest city north of San Francisco and west of Chicago", as the common catchphrase goes; these included Victoria, Yale, Harrison Mills, Port Douglas, Lillooet, Barkerville and others. It's a common brag, often overblown.....Skookum1 (talk) 18:53, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
