Name of article

edit

I believe a better name for the article would be Korporatsioon Rotalia (or a translation of this which would be Rotalia Corporation), as this is the name used on the organization's website. Rublamb (talk) 02:08, 31 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sounds like a policy discussion. To mull it over, we should note the following:
  • Ours is a secondary Wikipedia entry, summarizing the Estonian article.
  • While the native (English) F&S articles routinely omit the words "Fraternity", "Inc.", and "Society" in their titles and article names, where the modifier is not common in English usage, it is reasonable to add it. Hence "Korp" or "Corporation".
  • On that point (use of a modifier) I hope we can aim for consistency across our summaries of German, Baltic and other European student societies, with English articles. I don't know if that is always possible with the language variants.
  • The outcome may thus be clearer if we use "Korp" versus "Corp", and may want to consider dropping the exclamation point in some title usages of "Korp!".
  • Because these are a separate class of organizations, I don't mind using Korporation (or Korp), rather than Corporation, since it helps readers understand these are not American-style corporations as commonly understood. This would tend to make me prefer naming the article Korporatsioon Rotilia, or Rotilia Korp, or Rotilia Korporatsioon, versus using a variant of Corporation, even here on the English Wiki.
  • There may be MOS guidance on this from others who have dealt with a similar issue. Jax MN (talk) 16:51, 31 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
