Questionable image

I think there is actually reason to believe the current image (File:Rouge powder.jpg) is not rouge. We were talking about it on IRC because there was a newspaper article here criticizing the rouge article, partially for that reason. Looking at the image, the brush is much smaller than those usually used to apply rouge. Also, the pots of color look more liquid and hard than rouge. Generally rouge applied with a brush is more powdery. I agree the new image is not as attractive, but at the very least there is no confusion over whether or not it's the correct thing.

I looked at the original Flickr image (here) and it says "Rouge", then below it in Japanese something that Google Translate says means "Autumn Rouge". It seems like the author named it "rouge" after the color, not the cosmetic. I think the image should be replaced with the new one. – GorillaWarfare ^{talk • contribs} 21:43, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Ferric Oxide

The term 'rouge', outside the scope of cosmetics, refers to ferric oxide powder. This is a rust-red abrasive, used for polishing hard materials such as glass and metals.

I suppose (no references!) that cosmetic rouge used to be roughly the same stuff. MrDemeanour (talk) 09:18, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
