Prof Roy Schwitters has passed away on Jan 10, 2023, and The Official Notification has been posted on the web sites for our Physics Dept and College of Natural Sciences web sites here at the University of Texas at Austin. I have worked with Prof. Schwitters here in the UT Physics Dept for many years before he retired 2 years ago... and his Wikipedia page here is very seriously lacking, missing a great deal of information, and needs to get a very serious update... besides just giving his Death notice information. I have already done this kind of update for the death of one of our other Physics Faculty back in 2018 for Professor George Sudarshan's Wikipedia page. So I know what the proper procedures were back in 2018 to do a proper and correct update on Death notice information. But I don't know if the procedures have changed since 2018 on how you are supposed to give a Death Notice update on a "Current Living Person" biography page, such as this one here. So I have already posted an {{Admin-Help}} notice on my Talk page to give notice to Wikipedia Senior Admins about the need to update this page here... But I also wanted to notify anyone else who has posted updates here, that Prof Schwitters has passed away... and His Wikipedia page information here really needs a serious amount of work to correctly update his Biography... before his Death becomes a really serious Public news issue. It has already Hit the local Austin American Statesman newspaper web site here in Austin... and its only a matter of time before the National Media picks up on this news... and then some of the National Media are going to go looking here for information... So I want to avoid any embarrassment for any of his family or collegues or friends... that his Biography information here is just seriously Lacking in any useful information. I have made the following changes here to this page, just to stay close to the information already Public in the Official Obituary Death Notice from the UT College of Natural Sciences, and the Obituary in the local Austin American Statesman newspaper:

1. The Official date of death information with citation reference to the local Austin American Statesman newspaper, and also an External Link to the Official UT College of Natural Sciences Death Notice.

2. I inserted an initial short paragraph in Roy's career information on his work on helping to develop the MARK I detector experiment on the SPEAR collider at Stanford SLAC, and his role in the data analysis that led to the Discovery of the J/Psi particle (which resulted in Burton Richter receiving the 1976 Nobel prize). Also, I included a citation reference to the talk/article by Burton Richter that describes the Discovery of the J/Psi particle and Roy's role in this discovery. This paragraph is just an initial starting paragraph that can be used to develop and add more information about Roy's involvement in this discovery.

3. I inserted another initial short paragraph in Roy's career information about Roy's involvement in the initial construction, development, and testing of the CDF experiment at Fermilab up to the initial commissioning Run 0 (1988-1989). This can also be used as a starting point to edit and add more information on Roy's role in helping to build the CDF experiment.

4. I made a minor correction on the information about Roy's work as the Director of the SSC Lab, by just adding the year he started as Director of the SSC Lab. Mselover (talk) 11:19, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

The 4 quick changes that I listed above that I have made to this page, are what seemed essential quick changes that needed to be made on this page to get it up to date and reasonably close to information that is already Public in the Official Death Notice at UT Austin, and also Public in the local Austin American Statesman newspaper. The updates 2. and 3. in the list above to update Roy's career information on his work on the MARK I detector experiment on the SPEAR collider at Stanford SLAC Lab, and his work as the initial Head of the CDF experiment at Fermilab. These are just initial Placeholder paragraphs that can be further updated with more information added by other Editors to give more details on Roy's work on these 2 experiments. There is also additional information about Roy's career after the SSC Super Collider was canceled, including more information about his work on the JASON Project, and the Maya Muon project. But also. Roy was the leader of the development of a new type of RICH Ring Cerenkov detector on the HERA-B experiment on the HERA accelerator at the DESY Lab in Germany, where HERA-B was the Prototype Development Experiment to test the new design for the RICH detector, and other detector sub-systems, on the LHC-B experiment on the LHC accelerator. So the RICH detector on the HERA-B experiment was the Prototype for the RICH detector on the current LHC-B experiment on LHC at CERN. Roy was the Leader of the development of this new RICH detector system prototype in the High Energy Physics Lab at UT Austin. Also, Roy led the Research group in the UT Austin High Energy Physics Lab that was working on the BaBar B-factory experiment at SLAC which discovered CP-Violation in B Mesons that also resulted in a Nobel Prize in around 2008. So there are a number of other Significant Career accomplishments that can be added here to Roy's Career information. But the 2 edit changes I already added to this page, changes 2 and 3 in the list above ... needed to be added quickly to keep this Bio page close to current with the information Already Public in the latest Public Death Notices and Obituarys. So my apologies for these quick changes listed above, but I thought this was time critical, because the Public Death Notice and Obituary information already had much more significant information on Roy's career then any of the previous information on this Bio page here. Roy Schwitters has passed away - wiki article also needs many updates

Dr. Roy F. Schwitters has unfortunately passed away as of January 10, 2023. Dr. Schwitters was a well-respected and loved physics professor of many faculty, students, and staff within the physics department at the University of Texas at Austin over the course of several decades. He was also one of the early pioneers in the field of high-energy physics. He will be greatly missed all around. As to his wiki page, the category of this page needs to be changed to "Biography of a Deceased Person" status. His page also needs numerous updates to reflect his numerable contributions to the physics community, If possible, the Wikipedia team should collect sources of information that would help turn his page into a more complete biography. Current professors at UT-Austin who knew him might be a good place to start in addition to publication records.
