Talk:Roy Thomson, 1st Baron Thomson of Fleet

Needs work

edit

Without references and sources some observations smack of opinion and non nuetral point of view. Where is the balance? Little effort is required to read of Thomson's ruthless empire building ambitions and reputation toward parsimony. He was the Rupert Murdoch of his day and this article doesn't reflect opinion of him at the time. For the media mogul of 1960s the title photograph seems weak. For a less flattering contempory image of Thomson seek out Private Eye (No.126). On this PE cover Gerald Scarfe caricatures Thomson as a monstrous turgid toad expelling gas and toadspawn, as he consumes The Times newspaper.

Roy Thomson Hall funding - philosophical question

edit

The page states that Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto "was built with funds donated in large measure by the Thomson family". According to the Hall's website, the family donated $4.5million of the $57 million cost. Is it accurate to say "in large measure" when the donation was less than ten per cent of the total cost?

The first paragraph is confusing, is the "he" used his father or Roy Thomson?

What does this mean?

edit

Nonetheless, he made his son Kenneth promise to use the hereditary title that he had received in 1964, if only in the London offices of the firm.

If only in the London offices of the firm? Seems to make no sense Rustygecko (talk) 20:47, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sales career

edit

...he found selling radios difficult because the only district left for him to work in was Northern Ontario.

Sounds like territories that had to be allocated. Needs elucidating.
