Name: "the" or not?

edit

Can someone confirm whether the definite article "the" is actually a formal part of the name? If not, this article should be moved to "Royal Canadian Dragoons" (à la Governor General's Foot Guards. The cap badge states only "Royal Canadian Dragoons", their regimental[1] and association[2] websites do not seem to put it as part of the formal title, and regiments.org seems to indicate they never had it. If there is no objection, I'll move it. SigPig 16:23, 31 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

The "standard" I've been going by in article naming is A-AD-265-000-AG-001 - CF Dress Manual, which seems to be well researched as to the presence of the/le/les. Here is a summary:

Another doc I have is A-AD-200-000-AG-000 - Honours, Flags and Heritage of the CF, and its list matches except it has no the for Irish R of C. No doubt there could be some errors in these docs (as one of them is wrong for Ir R of C), but I think they're the best to go on until we find something more authoritative. The "the" is part of the title. If you go into the history section of the Royal Canadian Dragoon's homepage, you'll find it Patar knight 22:40, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The "the" is only a preposition. Their cap-badge only says "Royal Canadian Dragoons". The Cadet Corps associated with it is the "2870 Royal Canadian Dragoons", not the "2870, the Royal Canadian Dragoons." Moved. Post below if necessary. --Patar knight 23:35, 11 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Reference to the Queen

edit

I've changed the reference to 'The Queen' approving the Springbok as the Regimental cap badge to read 'King Edward VII, the reigning monarch.' The request was submitted through Ottawa in 1908, when Edward VII was still on the throne. It was not approved until 1913, when Edward had passed and his son, reigning as George V, allowed the Regiment to add the springbok as a badge, not to replace the Royal cypher. 156.34.219.65 22:09, 27 March 2007 (UTC)a Dragoon without a wikipedia login156.34.219.65 22:09, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
